There is plenty to do near and far. The beaches are an obvious attraction, the closest being Meia Praia, a 5-10 min walk, and many others to choose from in both directions offering lush sand and/or the more dramatic on the west coast or one of the many surfing beaches.

The historic fishing town of Lagos has lots of attractions. Guided tours are available and information can be obtained from the Tourist office in the centre. Whilst the town has moved with the times, it has retained its character with its typical narrow streets and tiled houses. Alongside the breathtaking boats in the marina is the local fishing port where catches are brought in daily and sold in the local fish market. There is also a daily fruit & veg market.
The Cultural Centre has regular performances from traditional dance to contemporary music, ballet and drama.

Many travel to the area for its fantastic golfing facilities of which there are many to choose from. Our house overlooks one of them.
There are water parks approx 20 -30 mins drive. We have visited Zoomarine with children and had a great time.

If geology interests you, the rock formations at Ponte Piedade are infamous and only 15mins away

Day trips up into the Monchique hills can be a welcome relief on a very hot day. One can easily travel into Faro by car or any other of the surrounding historic towns or even take a day trip to Lisbon. It is possible to cross the border into Spain and visit the beautiful city of Seville but we would recommend a night or two to fully appreciate.

Travel by car is simple but one can choose to travel by the small local railway. There is a station at the bottom of the hill by the beach that runs from the train station in Lagos. Tickets can be purchased there but also on the train It is a very efficient, clean and timely service.

There are many walks, both inland and cliff top.

Cycling is very popular both on and off road with many tracks and paths to discover. We have two adult mountain bikes but there are cycle rental shops where one can also hire electric bikes. Cycling up into the hills to the nearest reservoir is a favourite.

Health and relaxation activities such as spas, yoga, pilates, tennis etc are available nearby.

If birds interest you, the Algarve is famous for the migrating Storks who return each year in March/April to build their nests and raise their chicks. In town, they can be seen nesting precariously in high places. In a field nearby 50 to a 100 nest on low trees which is quite a spectacle and attracts many visitors.

Also in or near town there is tree rope climbing for adults and children, an amazing mini golf course and restaurants in abundance.
