We are Peter and Leanne Vaeth. We retired from careers in Washington, DC and now reside near Atlanta, Georgia. We are returning HomeLink members who are hoping to spend more time traveling as a couple now that our children are heading off to college. Our three children traveled with us to New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, England and across the United States. We enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors and like to visit national parks. We've discovered that when we visit cities, we spend a lot of time walking around to meet locals and get a feel for the neighborhoods (although we do take in a museum here and there!). We love animals and until recently always had a cat or dog in our home. We enjoy sharing what we know about our communities with visitors and making you feel at home when you visit.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Our neighborhood is a collection of villas with full and part-time residents. We've enjoyed time here as a family with our children, and as a getaway with adult friends. Both types of trips offer plenty of fun and adventure or rest and relaxation depending on what you seek. You'll be woken in the morning by wild roosters and chickens who roam the island and don't be surprised if an iguana or two make their way out of the trees to sunbathe in the grass or on the pool deck. Evenings are full of the chirp of frogs as they serenade you. Water's Reach is a a short walk down to the beach where you can spend the day. Or you can take an invigorating hike up Garibaldi Hill for the impressive lookout over the volcano and exclusion zone. Dining is close by at the Isle Bay Beach Bar, the Vue Pointe Hotel, or Olveston House where you may stop in for drinks or dinner. A popular destination for recording artists in the 1970s, you'll find residents sharing stories of Sir George Martin's Aire Studios or performances at the Vue Pointe. Montserrat's resident volcano has been quiet for over ten years and lush greenery is returning to its base and hillsides. If you're interested in an extended stay, you can easily work remotely using our wifi.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Montserrat Volcanic Observatory offers tours and films covering the recent history of volcanic activity on the island. Little Bay offers swimming, restaurants, a Farmers Market, and cultural celebrations. Holidays often are celebrated with parades, and festivals. Public beaches are a short walk from the house or a short drive down the road. Each beach offers swimming, fishing, and small picnic areas. If you love animals, the local animal rescue hosts a dog walk every Sunday morning which gives the shelter dogs a chance to enjoy a hike nearby and gives you a chance to meet lots of visitors and residents on the island. Tours inside the exclusion zone or hikes in the hillsides with a local guide ensures you get the history of the island and don't miss seeing the native species of birds and plants. Hiking maps also are available for self-guided adventures. The National Trust offers history of the island, a tea shop, and sells native plants.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
Visiting Montserrat is currently subject to restrictions due to Covid. We anticipate visitors will be allowed on the island by late summer 2021. Our home is a vacation property and we provide maintenance of the yard, pool, and basic housekeeping during your stay. Temperatures are steady year round in the 80's with breezes diminishing between June to August. Ceiling fans and room fans are provided; however because our home is open air, we do not offer air conditioning (screened windows and sliding doors for cross ventilation). If you encounter any issues during your stay, you are asked to contact our property manager who resides on Montserrat.
