Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Ideal family home for 4-6 as well as a stylish abode for 2:
We live on the first floor (the „Belétage“) in a building dating from 1911. It´s quite large (215 square metres = 2314 square feet) and has 7 airy rooms, plus 2 bathrooms (full/with tub and half/with shower, but both are small) plus 1 dressing room, 1 entrée, 1 smallish cloak room, 1 small utility/food storage room - and a balcony.
Very high ceilings (3.45 metres) with wonderful stucco. Original golden oak parquet flooring and historic plank flooring, now stained/oiled in a rich chocolate brown. White plastered walls throughout. Industrial look kitchen by Bulthaup in the biggest room of all. We don´t have a lot of stuff standing or hanging around (except thousands of books in the study!). Mostly minimalistic / mid-century modernist furniture – some even in the kid´s rooms ;-).
Old lift with large key. Outdoor area with terrace for all and huge trampoline behind house.
Weekly cleaning +ironing service can be provided.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
A green and safe neighborhood dating back to 1866, when it was developed with the famously chic London-Westend in mind.
Charlottenburg is a very historically interesting district: Lots of Art Noveau and Wilhelminian-style houses – and the beautiful castle of Prussian Queen Sophie Charlotte, the biggest, most splendorous palace of the Hohenzollern kings in Berlin, is just 2 stops away by subway.
Very green: Most of the streets around us are called "XY alleys" – after the different trees that grow there. Plus: Biking distance to the Grunewald (3.000 hectars of oak and pine forest: ideal for romantic walks as well as activities like jogging or biking) and the Lietzensee (a gorgeous small inner-city lake).
On Reichsstrasse are all the shops you need. The U2 underground station (best line in Berlin!) is just 2 minutes walk! Night bus on weekends. taxi stop.
We also offer you a small wooden house, VERY basic!, on a romantic island in the middle of Tegeler See, another huge inner-city lake.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Well, Berlin has something to offer for ALL tastes :)! We have some favorite bars and restaurants, i.e. at night the "Paris Bar" on Kantstraße, during the day or for brunch the "Café K" in the fantastic former home of artist Georg Kolbe with a little park.
We love food markets (from traditional Karl-August-Platz in Charlottenburg to trendy Markthalle 9 in Kreuzberg), we are huge fans of the Schaubühne theater, I for one am totally into vintage shopping (especially furniture, which you probably guessed from our photos) - tell us what you personally are especially interested in + we´ll do a super list for you!

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
We are very respectful of other people´s property - and we´d appreciate this for our home as well.
Our parquet floor does not like water, so take care, it has survived more than 100 years and is looking forward to many more.
If you want to have a smoke, please use the balcony (we call it "le fumoir"...).
Would be nice if in hot weather, you´d water the cooking herbs on the balcony, only takes 3 minutes.
Everything else can be cleared by email, we think.
