• A perfect vacation and a perfect exchange!

  Jan and Peter were the most accommodating hosts possible. Their large and beautiful home is wonderfully situated in scenic, historic Carson Valley. It is a beautiful, short drive from the beauty and excitement of Lake Tahoe, Carson City, Virginia City, Reno, and the lovely and quaint Genoa. There is so much to do in close proximity to the house, and, there is the quiet and peacefulness of a small farming community when you feel like relaxing and listening to the wind chimes and the gentle mooing of cattle. We couldn't have enjoyed it more.

  This exchange was fantastic – made better as Jan & Peter communicated exceedingly well and were thoughtful and thorough. All pre-swap communication was answered quickly and fully and culminated in a face to face Skype call between us all. As we were going to their house first we would not be able to introduce them to our home physically, and so we took them around it by Skype to point out those small but significant things which can be very frustrating. Peter and Jan met us as soon as we arrived in Gardnerville and took us for a meal at the side of Lake Tahoe. We were surrounded by snow topped mountains, a deep blue sky and lake and many gently bobbing boats. Their home is large, spacious and nicely furnished. The kitchen and bathrooms are modern and in top order. Their home is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The views from the Great Room and veranda were of grasslands punctuated by horses and cattle against the backdrop of snow covered Sierra Nevada Mountains. We even had deer come into the garden on 3 occasions. They had arranged for some neighbours and friends to meet us that afternoon. These people invited us to a concert and meal during our 5 week stay. Meeting such friendly people made a great difference, especially when we had questions. From this base we were able to have days out to Lake Tahoe, Virginia City, Reno and our favourite Mono Lake - great to have a float in as the high salinity makes it similar to the Dead Sea. Pater and Jan are warm and hospital and a joy to know. We thank you both for a great exchange. Sue & Denis Harding
