There are many well known attractions near our hometown of Chemainus on Vancouver Island. The beautiful Butchart Gardens is an hour and a half away to the south. There is a very good theatre right in our small town plus world-famous murals. The capital city of the province, Victoria, is an hour and fifteen minutes to the south. Reminiscent of "olde England", it has a British flare but is a thriving modern city as well. To the west, a four hour drive away, are the famous surfing beaches of Long Beach and to the north, again about three and a half to four hours away is the Mt. Washington ski resort. Whale and grizzly bear tours are available all up and down the Island, depending on the time of year. Fishing is another popular pastime. Vancouver is a two-hour ferry ride away.
