Southport is a small seaside town 20 miles from Liverpool. It has all the attractions of the seaside, funfair and swimming pool, bowling alley and laser shoot yet retains much of its original Edwardian charm. If you want some traditional English seaside Blackpool is an hours drive away! Southport was used as the model for the design of the Champs Elysee in Paris and street plans for New York. We have several theatres and cinema with well known acts and a wonderful library , art gallery / museum in the Atkinson Centre. There are many restaurants, bars and coffee bars within walking distance of the cottage. Southport is flat which makes for easy walking and cycling ( bikes provided) to the next pretty village of Churchtown or if you prefer a beach walk amongst the sandhills to nearby nature reserves and red squirrels. The railway station is a 10 minute walk away with trains every 15 minutes to Liverpool stopping along the way at the many golf courses. Liverpool is a wonderful city rich in mercantile history with historic art galleries, public buildings and museums and a bustling new waterfront with executive homes and designer shopping. It is less than 90 minutes drive to the historic Roman city of Chester, North Wales and the South Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Cosmopolitan Manchester is an hour by train from Southport or by car. We are happy to swap our car. The journey to our Scottish home by car is approx. 41/2 hours. The train from Liverpool to London takes 2 hours 10 minutes or about 5 hours drive. We are approximately 30 minutes from the main motorway networks.
