Eckenroth, a very small village in the countryside, has a population of about only 250. We live very quietly, with only very few road traffic. Our country is very green; there are forests where you can walk, ride by bike or horse. About 1 km by foot from our home you may play tennis, golf or go swimming (6 km by car). The motorway between Mainz and Köln (Cologne) is only 5 minutes away (5 km).

Around us are lots of interesting things to see. 10 minutes by car you can visit the Romantic Middle Rhine (World Heritage Site), with the "Loreley Valley", the fortresses castles and pretty little towns, where many people make holidays. You can make trips on the other side of the river Rhine to the cultural scene of the Rheingau, where you may enjoy one of the best German white wines.

30 minutes by car you can reach Mainz (famous 1 000 year old cathedral) and Wiesbaden, where you can visit theatres, concerts and museums; but they also offer good shopping facilities. In 50 minutes you can travel to the city of Frankfurt on the Main with the Rhein-Main-Airport, St. Paul`s Church, Senckenberg Natural History Museum, Botanic Gardens, Zoo...

Köln (Cologne) (Gothic Cathedral, Old Town Centre, Romanesque churches...) is a 70 -80 minutes ‘drive to the north and Trier - Germany`s oldest town (Trier existed 1300 years before Rome) with roman and medieval monuments 80 minutes` drive to the west.

Other places of interest are Heidelberg (70 minutes) with the castle and Schwetzingens` castle park or nice small towns in the nearer surrounding like Bad Kreuznach, Bingen, Rüdesheim, Worms…

We like hiking. There are a lot of hiking trails:

• Hunsrück-Nahe in our immediate surrounding
• Romantic Middle Rhine (Ölbergsteig in Oberwesel with a marvelous view to the Loreley …)
• Hunsrück-Mosel (40 minutes by car, but a very nice valley with lovely trails and a terrific view. We like it very much)
• Eifel (geological interesting with his volcanic past)
• Rheinhessen …
