We love being outdoors whether that is gardening, walking, cycling or playing tennis. We are great nature lovers too and have worked hard to make our garden a haven for a wide range of wildlife. This year we've had little owls nesting in the apple tree, goslings on the pond and hedgehogs roaming the garden. We enjoy listening to live music, going to the theatre and exploring new places. We have five grandchildren and have lots of fun with them.

We had a wonderful week in Sue and Andy's beautiful house and garden. The house was immaculate, all the arrangements went perfectly, and their garden and paddock were a delight. It was a great base to explore Scarborough and the Yorkshire coast, but our best walk started just 2 miles from the house. There was everything we needed to make the best of a great week's weather- summer house, outdoor tables and chairs, and a veg garden to tend and plunder. We're so grateful!

Sue & Andy are perfect hosts and their home and garden are so lovely. We were made to feel most welcome and we thank them for sharing their home. We came home with some ideas for our own garden. Flixton is a well kept and attractive village. The pub is 180 yards away and was excellent,' a well oiled machine' with good and plentiful food. There are many other good eating places but as we were there in peak season, they were extremely busy. Good for the local economy! North Yorkshire is a beautiful region to visit, so much to do and see for all ages, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We very much enjoyed our visit to the North Yorkshire coast and the Barraclough's home made a good base for exploring the area. The traditional cottage was full of history and character and even had it's own chickens! The garden was amazing. There was plenty of room for three generations and our grandson loved the many toys that were left for us and choosing food from the massive, well kept vegetable garden. We were able to go on many excursions to sandy beaches, seaside towns, historic buildings, the moors and the City of York.

Interested in UK for short breaks.

Welcome to North Yorkshire. We live in a beautiful area close to pretty seaside villages and towns. The closest is Scarborough, 7 miles away, with a medieval castle, active fishing port and marina, surfing beaches and a wide range of attractions.
We are within easy reach of York (1 hour) which has many attractions including a renowned gothic cathedral, medieval city walls, Roman and Viking remains, old city streets and wonderful restaurants. It is steeped in history and culture. Stage two of the Grand Depart of the tour de France left York in 2014.
There are views from our garden towards the North York Moors.This is popular with visitors who enjoy walks amongst the heather or a ride on the steam train. You will find many traditional English villages with local pubs to enjoy a meal and a traditional beer.

We live in a very beautiful part of Northern England with the North York Moors, the Yorkshire Wolds and the Yorkshire coast all on our doorstep. We are an hour from the historical city of York with its amazing minster and excellent shopping. Our home is in a very quiet lane, our large garden is private, tranquil and full of wild birds. Our home is 200 years old and built of the traditional chalk stone, as are many other homes in the village. We have a local pub that serves good value meals and good beers. This area is excellent for walking, cycling, surfing and sightseeing. There are several very pretty fishing villages along the coast within easy access. Scarborough is one of the oldest seaside resorts in the UK and there are many walks with spectacular views to enjoy. There are also good restaurants, theatres and music venues. There is an active music scene in the town. Going inland there are many traditional English villages to explore and Dalby Forest, good for walking and cycling.

Scarborough is the second most visited place in the U.K. after London. The harbour, castle and South Cliff Gardens are all delightful. You can enjoy theatre in the round at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, home to Alan Ayckbourn, the world's most popular living playwright. There is a flourishing music scene including a Jazz Club, Europe's largest open air theatre, and the lovely Scarborough Spa Theatre on the sea front.
We live close to several beautiful beaches; Filey, Clayton Bay, Scarborough South Bay and Scarborough North Bay and we are about 50 minutes from Whitby.
We are close to the North York Moors National Park with beautiful scenery and many lovely walks. To the south we have the Yorkshire Wolds and many pretty villages and walks to enjoy. York, with the fabulous Minster ( the largest gothic cathedral in Northern Europe), city walls, galleries and shopping is an hour away.
