We very much enjoyed staying in David and Tabi's house which is clean, comfortable and spacious. Their pets and animals kept us entertained. There is lots to see and do in the area, especially if you like either wildlife/bird watching or history. The local Parish church of Ashwellthorpe is lovely and worth a visit, as is the town of Wymondham. The coast is an not far away either

Beskrivning av hemmet vi erbjuda att byta bort

Our home is in a corner plot with views from the bedrooms over fields; a very quiet location. It has a dining room with patio doors to the terrace leading to a deck by the pond. A sliding door leads from the "play room" to the deck. There are two further decked areas in the garden, and a summer house with seating and heating. There is always somewhere to sit in the sun or in the shade. The playroom has a sofa bed and office area. The sitting room has an oil fired stove. (There’s also central heating.) There is a 46" smart tv with Sky. There are 3 CD payers and 3 other tvs (two with Freeview). Our computer is available with Broadband and Wifi. The "breakfast" room next to the kitchen has a table seating six. The kitchen has electric hob, double oven and lots of work space; a cook's kitchen. There’s a sink, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and 2 freezers in the utility room. Two bedrooms have double beds and one twins that can be linked to form a queen sized bed. Full bathroom upstairs, a shower room (with loo & hand basin) downstairs. The double garage is big enough to play table tennis. One garage door is electric.

Beskrivning av vårt grannskap och omgivning

Ashwellthorpe is a small village with an ancient woodland, a church and a pub in rural Norfolk but Norwich, our nearest "city" (it is small and ancient) is only two hours from central London by train. We are an hour by car from Cambridge, and an hour to the coast.
The attractive town of Wymondham, only 3 miles away, has an abbey, market cross, all the usual shops and services, and rail link to Norwich, just ten minutes away. Norwich has theatres, cinemas, restaurants, a Norman castle and a beautiful cathedral. East Anglia has many stately homes, picture post card villages, and wonderful pubs. It is also the birdwatching "capital" of England. Wymondham also has a direct rail link to Cambridge (one hour). Another hour on a train takes you to Central London. There is a pub within easy walking distance. There are several good pubs at which to eat within a few miles. There is a golf club about 20 minutes away which has a gym, tennis courts, pool etc. Reasonable day rate.

Våra tips om platser att gå och saker att göra när du bor i vårt hem

Norwich and Cambridge have many culture and arts attractions; Wymondham has a music festival every year. The Sainsbury Centre at the UEA has some wonderful exhibitions.

Previous exchangers have enjoyed hiring a day cruiser on the broads, or taking a trip of the paddle boat, The Southern Comfort (on which we had our wedding reception), visiting the various stately homes, including Sandringham, Blicking, Oxborough and Felbrigg. Banham zoo (where Tabi volunteers) is only 20 minutes away; the bird of prey and “Amazing Animals” displays are excellent.
The North Norfolk coast has some beautiful villages, we particularly like Well-next-the-Sea (try The Crab House!) and beaches, and very good birdwatching at Titchwell - a flagship RSPB reserve.
Bury St Edmunds has some award winning flower displays in the summer months. Further lovely floral displays can be found at Bressingham Gardens, together with steam trains and a “Dad’s Army” display - the tv show was filmed in the area. The attractive town of Diss is nearby with its “mere”.

Vad vi gillar, vad vi inte gillar ... Här är våra preferenser och husregler.

UK/Europe. We no longer want to travel long distances.

As we have several arrangements already in place October is the earliest we have availability for a short UK exchange.

We prefer simultaneous exchanges because we have cats, chickens (and sometimes a bird of prey) to be fed. However, we can occasionally consider non-simultaneous exchanges. We always welcome offers from homes with cats, or exchangers happy to look after cats. But if you think you have a home that will tempt us, try us!

Because of the pond our home is not really suitable for small children. Smoking is allowed on the porch or in the garden.
We have 4 cats who have limited access to the house when we are at home, but unlimited access to the utility room & large, private, enclosed garden. We have friends/neighbours who are willing cat feeders. If necessary, they would look after the planters and indoor plants.
We have a large aviary in the garden which is sometimes occupied by recuperating wild birds of prey prior to release back into the wild. If feeding a bird/s would be a problem we can arrange for someone else to feed, or to have no birds.
New in 2020 - chickens! We now have a coop and run for rescued chickens. Like the aviary it can't really be seen from the house. For exchanges of more than four days it will be necessary to top up food and water for the girls. Longer exchanges may involve an element of cleaning. Our current five girls were rescued in August 2023.
