Julio Verne wrote in his novel "Twenty thousand leagues under the sea" that captain Nemo's best kept secret is in Vigo bay, where the Nautilus submarine came to stock up on gold. This is fiction, but what is true is that Vigo's estuary hides dozens of sunken ships (Battle of Rande, 1725) maybe loaded with the gold from the Americas…but treasures have not come to light yet.

Anyway, there are also treasures at everyone's reach. Galician seafood is known worldwide as some of the best in the world. So you can stroll through Vigo’s Old Quarter and have oysters and octopus with the famous Galician white wines. Or spend a day bathing or surfing in Patos beach . Or go on a boat tour to the wonderful Cies islands (Rodas beach – photo included in the announcement- has been considered by The Guardian the most beautiful beach in Europe). Or climb up to the Castro (ancient fortification surrounded by gardens) to see an amazing sunset.
