Munich is most famous for its science museum (Deutsches Museum), the art galleries with masterpieces of all centuries (Pinakotheken, Brandhorst Museum, Lenbachhaus) gathered all in one area (Kunstareal), the castles of their kings (Residenz, Schloss Nymphenburg with park and botanic garden nearby). Beside this high culture the popular culture of beergardens is most recommendable. You can bring your own food and have to buy only your drinks, or you buy your food their as well, and there will be a serviced part as well. The most popular beergardens are in the English Garden (Chinesischer Turm, where brass music is played on weekends), but there are lots of others worth visiting.

Daytrips to beautiful lakes with cruises (Starnberger See, Ammersee), to the Alps (G7 summit), to famous castles (Neuschwanstein, Linderhof), to Austria (Salzburg, Innsbruck) can mostly be done by public transport as well with daytickets (Bayernticket, €25-30).
