The forest begins a hundred metres from the house. The Hermannsweg, well-known to hikers and runners, runs nearby. The "Senne", a unique steppe landscape, can be easily reached by bicycle. The Externsteine are also famous. Winter sports enthusiasts will find a cross-country ski trail in Feldrom, or great toboggan slopes everywhere in the Teutoburg Forest. The Hermann monument with its climbing park can be reached in about 30 minutes. Just as close are the silk-weaving town of Bielefeld, the bishop's town of Paderborn, the old Hanseatic town of Lemgo, the residential town of Detmold, and the state spa of Bad Salzuflen. They offer a wide range of cultural activities (theatres, cinemas, museums, event arena, Bundesliga football). Boats can be hired on the Schiedersee and the Lippesee. There are water-skiing facilities in Varenholtz and on Lake Lippe. Exotic animals (e.g. white tigers) await you alongside numerous fairground attractions in the safari amusement park. Other insider tips are the Gernheim glassworks, the Berlebeck eagle sanctuary, the Minden waterway junction and the Dahlheim monastery. Further discovery trips by canoe on the Lippe, the Bega or the Weser, tours with a trolley or the museum railway, castles such as the Wewelsburg or the Sparrenburg and many more offer incomparable holiday experiences. The interesting cities of Osnabrück (50 min) and Hanover (1 h 14 min) with the famous Herrenhäuser Gardens, the Adventure Zoo etc. are easy to reach via the motorway.
