My husband and I are a retired couple who spend part of the year in our home near Nelson BC Canada, shared with our daughter, her husband and their two sons aged 6 and 8 years old, and the winter months in San Miguel de Allende. We enjoy spending our summers in Nelson sharing time with our family, gardening and exploring the beautiful province we live in. During our time in San Miguel we do volunteer work at Escuela de Educación Especial de San Miguel de Allende, a non profit that provides education and job skills to deaf young people. San Miguel also provides a great stepping off point to travel spots in Latin America. So far we have seen Cuba, Peru, Guatemala and Costa Rica and wish to next visit Colombia.

The community of Blewett is about 10 kilometres west of Nelson on Hwy 33. The area is rural in nature with side roads meandering up from the Kootenay River to the mountain heights. Taghum Shell gasoline station and grocery store is a five minute drive, convenient for last minute essentials, including alcoholic beverages.

A short 10 minute drive into the City of Nelson affords many wonderful diversions; restaurants, shops, movies, parks, lake access, organic farmers market, and many summer festivities. A further 30 minute drive to Ainsworth Hot Springs is trip not to be missed. Historic city of Kaslo is slightly further north from Ainsworth and definitely worth exploring. Or you can take your car aboard the Balfour to Harrop ferry, free of charge, and explore the east side of Kootenay Lake.
