Located just a few short miles from Wexford Town, Google maps guided us through the hedgerows and scented lanes to where we found the Fogarty's welcoming abode. We were greeted by the impressive avenue flanked by chestnut, oak and cherry blossom among others. It is a fitting approach to what is a large traditional home with all the trappings that made our stay very comfortable indeed. The large kitchen, living room, sun-room and bedrooms were all and very inviting and were a pleasure to stay in. The gardens are large and ideal for family life. An activity set with swing, slide and climbing frame was a focal point for play, not to mention the big GAA goal posts where skills were practised too. Adjacent is a generous patio space with bench where we ate whilst enjoying the weather of the sunny south east. The picturesque setting combines peacefulness with a multitude of activities. One can safely walk on the lanes locally as traffic is restricted to the odd car and friendly farmer. There is a lovely walk right beside the house that the three kids and the two of us enjoyed. It takes in a wooded area and leads to stunning vistas of the beautiful southern countryside and coast line. Trips we took included a visit to the old lighthouse at Hook head. It's only half an hour away and is over 800 years old ! A very interesting spot. Another day was spent at the Irish national heritage park. Only minutes from our base we took in the tour and enjoyed the trails showing life in olden times. The beaches at Rosslare, Kilmore Quay, Carne and St Helens are all clean, friendly, easy to get to and safe. The food locally is literally some of the best in Ireland from the ice cream in Rosslare's "Izmoo Gelateria" to the "Salty Chipper's" fish and chips in Kilmore Quay. A tiny bit further and "The Lobster Pot" in Carne does great sea food. St Helen's Golf club overlooks the beach and has a nice menu with loads of seating outside. We thoroughly enjoyed them all during our stay. We thank the Fogartys for being great exchange partners. Their friendliness, advice and guidance and lovely home meant that we had a fantastic time during our week in Wexford. Thank you to Emma, David, Jane, Charlie, Mary and Henry for allowing us to do this. We were delighted yee had a great time at our end and wish yee many more great exchanges in the future ! Your friends, Margaret, Martin, Maria, Tommy and Mike !
