We live on a man made canal with access to the bay. Our suburb is on a Peninsula, 3 sides surrounded by water. There are plenty of walking & cycling paths. There are safe bay beaches, parks with picnic and BBQ facilities and also outdoor gym equipment in some of them.
The pop group the Bee Gees lived here on the Peninsula when they were growing up and their first performances were here. We now have a wonderful laneway called Bee Gees Way as a tribute to them, with information, memorabilia, and their songs playing continually. It has become very popular with visitors and regular day trippers from Brisbane etc.
During the Whale season, ( June to mid October) there are regular tours and almost certain sightings of the whales during their migration.
Redcliffe is the first settlement city of Queensland.
There are several festivals held during the year, one of the most popular is the Festival of Sails, held each year on Good Friday in conjunction with the Sailing Yacht Race, Brisbane to Gladstone. The Yachts do a Spinnaker run off Suttons Beach, where the Festival is held.
There are now several restaurants on the waterfront on Redcliffe Parade, such as Italian, Greek, Indian, Thai, Mexican, as well as other cafes, clubs and pubs.
Every Sunday on Redcliffe Parade the Parade is closed to traffic as the Jetty Markets are held. These have a farmers Market as well as all sorts of other things. It is a great morning out.
There are several supermarkets and a few specialty shops, however about 15-20 minutes drive is the Westfield Shopping Centre with major department stores and several specialty shops and boutiques.
We have a large Public Hospital, and a Private Hospital, the area is well served with Family Doctors (GP) and Specialists.
The Redcliffe Peninsula is well served by public transport such as buses and we now have a train service ( something we waited over a hundred years for.
The Sunshine Coast with its great surf beaches is about an hour drive north, and the Gold Coast ninety minutes drive.
We have found the Redcliffe Peninsula a great place to live.
