Strathalbyn is known as an ‘antiques’ town as there are quite a few antique shops. It has also often been referred to as the prettiest town in South Australia. There is a vibrant cafe scene with many to choose from. It is close to popular seaside townships popular with travellers and locals alike (half an hour), the beautiful Adelaide Hills with its charming little towns, and several wine grape growing areas including the Langhorne Creek winery region (10 mins drive) and the Southern Vales (McLaren Vale). Quite a few of the wineries have wonderful eating areas with excellent menus, mostly with local produce and wine. It is surrounded by mostly grazing and broadacre farming. For car fanatics, The Bend, a globally recognised new racetrack is about an hour's drive from Strathalbyn.

The house is situated within 5 minutes walk of the high street and the antique shops and cafes. Also within walking distance are the library, supermarket and swimming pool (in summer). There are extensive walking trails through the township. The house has been recently fully renovated with all modern conveniences.
