Our home is in a beautiful Victorian terrace in a quiet suburb about 4 miles from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne - which boasts world-class culture, a vibrant nightlife, award-winning dining, inspiring heritage, fantastic shopping and acclaimed architecture. There is a small shopping centre nearby and several large supermarkets within a 5 minute drive. Our home is situated a few minutes walk from the Metro line with a frequent service which will take you into the centre of Newcastle within 10 minutes. There you will find a large range of shops, restaurants, theatres, galleries, cinemas, museums, a castle and a Premiership football ground. Going in the other direction you can be at the beach in 20 minutes by Metro. By rail Edinburgh is only 80 minutes away and Durham (a World Heritage site) is less than 15. York is 50 minutes and London about 3 hours. Hadrian's Wall, also a World Heritage site, is within an hour's drive and the Lake District can be reached in 2 hours by car. London can be reached in 3 hours by train. For those who want to go shopping the Metro Centre on the fringes of Newcastle is one of the largest shopping malls in Europe. Washington Old Hall, the home of George Washington's forebears, is situated within Washington, a new town a short drive from Newcastle. Alnwick Castle, the home of the Duke of Northumberland, is where Harry Potter was filmed and is only 30 miles away.
