We are in our 60's and have been designing and building houses on Gabriola island for 30 years. We enjoy being active outdoors camping, cycling, walking, and kayaking as well as discovering great food, the arts, and architecture.
We are keen to see more of the world and will consider all exchange offers (simultaneous or not), as well as housesitting your home. We would especially like to have more than one exchange on a trip to Europe/UK. Our time is mostly flexible. Contact us!

Ons huis
Beschrijving van het huis dat wij aanbieden voor ruil
Beautiful, 1850 square foot home (172 m2) with lots of natural light and wood and views of distant mountains and trees. We are on an island (population 5000). The New York Times rated British Columbia's Gulf Islands as a top destination for natural beauty and tranquility. Gabriola Island is a 20 minute ferry ride from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. There is daily float plane service to Vancouver from Gabriola and airports in Vancouver, Victoria and Nanaimo, British Columbia.
The house is on one-level, spacious and comfortable. There are 2 bedrooms, each with a double bed. The shared ensuite bathroom has a shower and washer/dryer. The main bathroom has a tub and shower.
The kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities are custom-built with local maple and feature Mexican copper sinks. There are hardwood floors throughout the house.
We love sitting outside in the private garden eating, reading, and watching the birds and deer.

Our neighbourhood is very quiet with many forest trails nearby and is a 5 minute walk to the ocean/beach. Wood-fired bakery is around the corner for fresh bread and treats. Marina is nearby for kayak rentals and fishing charters. Gabriola Island has many artists' studios, music, theatre and all the amenities (health services, grocery stores, restaurants, etc.).

Gabriola Island is called the "Isle of the Arts" and is a very vibrant community with many cultural events and festivals. Lots of year-round outdoor activities too (hiking, beach walking, biking, fishing, boating, golfing). Vancouver Island also has wonderful places to explore and things to do, including whale-watching. Vancouver is a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride or 20 minute plane ride away for the big city attractions. Victoria, the beautiful provincial capital, is 90 minutes by car.

You will find our house clean and tidy when you arrive and we ask that you leave it as you found it.
We prefer to exchange with 1-2 other people. The house is not suitable for young children or pets.
No smoking in the house please. We are non-smokers.
A car is needed to get around the island easily. Car rental is available at airports in Vancouver, Victoria or Nanaimo.
