I am a teacher at a vocational school and my sons (16, 18) attend high school. We like culture and nature, especially the sea. We have exchanged 10 x with Ireland, UK, France, Spain, USA and Australia. My grown-up son lives in NYC and might join us on occasion. We have one Himalayan cat and two Ragdolls, but only the Himalayan cat will be at the home during the exchange.

Beschrijving van het huis dat wij aanbieden voor ruil
Looking for non-simultaneous swaps: we’d like to spend Christmasses 2 weeks in warmer climates (e.g. USA, South Africa or Australia), in exchange for our house in Summer (July or August) when I decamp to the UK to visit relatives.
This is a typical Austrian large, airy family home (470m2) divided into two separate “generations” units. I live upstairs (2 floors, 270 m2). My mum lives in the downstairs appartment, completely self-contained with its own entrance. There is a beautiful balcony with lovely views to the lake and Alps where you can enjoy your morning coffee or an evening drink. Situated in Central Europe in the picturesque and historic lake district Salzkammergut - 52 lakes (“The sound of music”). The lake is 5 mins. on foot - where you can swim or sunbathe or people watch. There are some bars and restaurants within walking distance. Lots of mountains and hills nearby for walking, hiking, climbing and biking. Mountain lakes to discover. Also several cable cars and a mountain steam train (St. Wolfgang). Lots of culture - the emperor's summer residence Bad Ischl, medieval town Gmunden, St. Wolfgang, number 1 tourist spot famous prehistoric Hallstatt dating from the stone ages with the oldest salt mine in the world, and Salzburg. One/two day trips: Munich and Vienna about 2.5 hours, Prague and Budapest about 4 - 6 hours.
Restaurants (“Wienerschnitzel”) and coffee houses (“Apfelstrudel”), farmer markets and bakeries nearby.
We have one friendly and cute cat, easy to care for.

Safe and quiet neighbourhood with large family homes. Friendly neighbours. Short walking distance (5 minutes) to lake. The nearest grocery shops (Spar, Billa), as well as a very good bakery, butcher's, a fish monger (who sells very good freshly caught fish from the lake and a very tasty fish-soup and other things), a bank (with ATM) is a nice 15 minute walk along the lake. On Tuesdays there is a farmers market in nearby Gmunden. There are bigger supermarkets which can easily be reached by car (5 - 10 minutes). There is a cycle path which starts by the lake (goes around it) - safe for kids and grown-ups. In Gmunden there is electric boat hire and coffee houses (approx. 10 - 15 minutes on foot). There are doctors' surgeries and a hospital nearby. The train station is about 5 - 10 minutes by car.

Onze tips voor leuke activiteiten en uitjes bij ons in de buurt
Water based activities like swimming, surfing, sailing and water skiing. Mountain based activities such as walking, hiking and climbing. Outdoor pursuits for the not so fit: cable cars, mountain trains to get you up the Alps, so you can enjoy the clear mountain air and visit the rustique mountain pubs, for kids and young at heart: the new summer toboggan run nearby (on our house mountain, Grunberg). Cultural activities: Medieval town Gmunden, emperor's summer residence Bad Ischl, salt mines in stone age town Hallstatt, Picturesque town St. Wolfgang, Further afield (day trip): Salzburg, Vienna. Foodwise: lots of pastry shops and Austrian coffee houses where you can have apple strudel. Country pubs around the lake and on mountains. In winter there are several skiing resorts nearby, where you can rent ski equipment.

I am very happy to do simultaneous home exchanges in the Austrian school holidays. I can also do non-simultaneous exchanges. I am also happy to offer hospitality exchanges. The guest rooms I can offer are the duplex room with its own balcony and sitting area with wonderful views to the lake and mountains as well as another bedroom adjacent. (suitable for 2 to 4 people). You would have your own private bathroom (shower, toilet, wasbasin).
