Our house is 40 miles east of Orlando Airport - a 45 minute drive. This being Florida, public transport isn't great! Just hire a car (or bring your own) and there are numerous exciting attractions within an easy ride. The fantastic Disneyworld is 45-60 minutes drive. It is easily possible to take a day trip to Disneyworld, though you really need longer than a day! Port Canaveral is about 25 minutes away, very handy for the cruise liners. Cape Canaveral, or the internationally recognised Kennedy Space Centre is a 30 minute drive. Dates of rocket launches are listed on the space centre website. A 15 minute drive will take you to our local Playalinda beach. Playalinda is natural, unspoilt beach with no bars, shops or razamataz - just miles of beautiful sandy beach and the endless ocean. Chain-O-Lakes, just 5 minutes away affords you close encounters with alligators! As you stroll around the lake you will see alligator eyes peering on the surface of the water, and alligators also frequently lie on the banks of the lake, taking in the sunshine (NOTE, don't try to stroke them!) Also very close is the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, where you can spot gators, manatees and sea turtles. Titusville sits on the stunningly beautiful Indian River and boasts parks and a marina. It also has a cinema and a small, very popular theatre.
