The village of Glenridding is an old mining village with traditional stone built cottages and lots of character as well as spectacular views of the Cumbrian mountains and Ullswater lake. Ullswater was the setting for Wordsworths' famous poem 'The Daffodils'. There are Steamer trips on the Lake on all year round and recreational boating activities as well as swimming for the brave. It is a hikers' paradise with many well signed trails plus plenty of unsigned for the very adventurous. For youngsters Lowther Castle has one of the best adventure playgrounds in the country and there are plenty of lake side activities. Other nearby family attractions are: Aira Force, the Rheged Centre, Beatrix Potter's house, Ravenglass and Eskdale miniature railway, Windermere and Ambleside museums and many more.
