We are an adventuresome, family of four that is respectful of other people's property. We like good food, art & music -- we give and take music lessons here in town. Mom reads. Dad cooks. Simone, 21 & Alex, 20 are in college but travel with us.
We like exploring museums, the outside, quirky neighborhoods and hanging out as a family. And of course we like to discover great food -- in markets, on farms or at hidden restaurants.

We offer 2 worlds -- NYC is 35 minutes away by easy train and our lovely small village of Maplewood, New Jersey. Our house sleeps 8. Our exchange family last year described the town as from "an adorable American movie." We agree.
Our house is on a golf course and is charming, open & quiet. The village (9 min. walk) has groceries & food, a newspaper shop, croissant/bagel, (ride one of our bikes to The Able Baker or the Bagel Chateau & meet locals over coffee) pizza, ice cream shops, many nice restaurants (Italian, French, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Indian, Ramen noodle shop, Irish sports pub, American barbecue, Mexican... wine bar, yoga, book store, flower shops, banks & train station. The beach is 40 minutes away by car. The real fun, of course, is having NYC so close.

The neighborhood is quite & peaceful -- middle America...and our house was built about 120 years ago. Throughout the day, from the living room window you'll see commuters hurrying towards the train, mothers jogging with strollers and kids walking dogs. Neighborhood kids love the swing hanging in our front tree. In back, we look out onto a beautiful golf course with all its Canadian geese & cranes. If you wake up early and you might catch the beautiful red fox sunning himself just beyond the back fence. (She's harmless and quite skittish.) Watch the sunrise with coffee in the family room. The train is 9 minute walk away.

- Grounds for Scuplture, by car to Hamilton New Jersey. Amazing outdoors scuplture/art park with re-creations of impressionist paintings. Don't miss its Kabul Cafe in Ratz's restaurant too.
- Nunzio's Kitchen (barbeque). For garlic chicken & black bean take out. This place is a hole-in-the-wall to take food back home from. Its 3 minutes away by car. Google the address for directions.

We enjoyed several nice exchanges in the past (Paris, Berlin, Barcelona & la Costa Brava, Florence) & are eager to exchange again. We will happily consider offers for two weeks this summer somewhere interesting and fun. Unfortunately my wife is allergic to cats so we cannot exchange with homes with cats or long-haired dogs. Our car is a Honda Pilot. We have a small, very clean dachshund dog (my wife is not allergic to her thankfully) -- but the dog would be put in a kennel during your stay.
