We live on the edge of the town Eberswalde (60km north of Berlin). It is close to the center (3km), accessible with public transport (bus station 5min walk, bus leaves every 15min to center and train station). In Eberswalde, you have everything you need and more (see description below), both touristically and for everyday life.
The trains to Berlin leave twice per hour and take 35min to Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof); you can also go directly to Berlin Gesundbrunnen, Südkreuz, Lichtenberg).
In our neighbourhood, you find supermarkets close by (10 minute by foot), gas stations and a local bakery. We live in a quarter of new builds, so there are many families and children living all around us; it is next to an "older neighbourhood" with some original GDR-houses to check out (for the historically interested). Our house is situated across a large new playground with children's ropeway, jungle gym, swings, sandpit and a small soccer pitch. It is 100m to the woods, with direct access from our street and multiple hiking paths, a sand dune, climbing tree a tiny forest lake (possible to dip in for children, but not for real swimming & you can fish there). Also, it is very nice to bike in the woods and we have some attractions/nice bike tours you can do.
Eberswalde is a family friendly town (40,000 people) and has amenities such as a cinema, indoor swimming pool (with water slides, baby pool and multiple saunas), a zoo with both wild life and regional animals, a theme park for families and garden-interested folks ("Familiengarten"), a great botanical garden ("Forstbotanischer Garten"), a large indoor childrens playground ("Fitolino") and many festivals and cultural events (e.g. a Jazz festival). Thanks to the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Developlment, we live in a fair trade certified city that is ecologically aware, many students and families live here and hence we also have many cool shops and spots to check out (2 coffee roasters, an eco-bakery, a cocoa-speciality shop, second hand stores & maker spaces).
