From our house it is a short walk to an award winning cafe with attached beer garden. We are also next to the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world and there are several spectacular bush walks along the lake side and river banks. The Rotorua lakes district has some of the best trout fishing in New Zealand. Rotorua is also a thermal wonderland with spectacular geysers, hot mud pools and steam vents available to the public.
Within an hour's drive it is possible to reach Lake Taupo, Hobbiton, where Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were filmed. The beaches of the Bay of Plenty coast are only 40 minutes drive away and Te Puke, the Kiwifruit capital of the world" is a 20 minute drive from home.
