I now live in two countries, the Netherlands and England, after a life of living abroad.
My English home is in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the Dutch home is in the old city of Zaltbommel on the river Waal [Rhine]. Our two daughters live and work in England.
The Yorkshire cottage has been let as a holiday cottage for years. Currently I am spending more time there myself, but for 2022 exchanges are possible, especially from mid-August through to mid-October. I tend to favour 2 week exchanges, but everything is flexible. I am on my own, but for the exchanges I expect at times to be joined by members of my family, which could be anything from 1 extra person to 4 extra persons.
The house in the Netherlands will be on the books from April 2022 when I have made things ready there. It is a lovely spacy house in the middle of a historic river town in central Holland.

The house is south-facing, light and airy, and sprawls over three floors, with a huge light-filled attic, two staircases and various rooms of different sizes dotted around the place. There are two bathrooms, one with bath, the other with shower.

Very friendly neighbourhood in old centre of town. Some traffic but not noisy. The house is 2 minutes away from the leafy fortification walk that surrounds the old town. Zaltbommel’s City status belies its small & intimate character: everything is nearby, shops, countryside, river, station. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes, a historic church [earliest parts date from the 14th century] and a small 16th century castle, as well as many interesting 17th century buildings. Zaltbommel is centrally located in the Netherlands and it is therefore easy to explore further away without making long journeys.Very close by are areas of natural beauty, wetlands and river walks, with cycle paths leading from village to village and small ferries to get you across the various rivers. The train station is a 20 minute walk, or 5 minute drive, with train connections to the old cities of Den Bosch [10 minutes], Utrecht [30 mins], Amsterdam [70 mins], the Hague [70 mins].

From our house in the beautiful old town centre it is a short walk to all the shops and the riverside. Extensive cycle paths all around beautiful riverscapes with ferries to cross the various rivers. Wonderful for birdwatchers! Great for walking in the wetlands. Nearby historic towns Den Bosch and Utrecht reachable by train and many other old towns in the neighbourhood.
