Our neighbourhood is very quiet at the border of the towncentre. The historical centre is stuffed with monuments from 1400 till 2000. In the centre is a Lategothic Palace from the former Marquises of BoZ ( het Markiezenhof, the only one in the Netherlands, 1485-1511), a Lategothic church ( de Gertrudiskerk) , both built by the famous architects Keldermans from Mechelen. There is also a medieval citygate ( de Gevangenpoort, 14 th century), a medieval arched sewer ( de Grebbe, ca 1485) Some rests of the city walls (het Ravelijn, 1702) You can cycle in 15 min. to the forests, in 5 min. to a lake where you can surf or swim( and an indoor swimmingpool). In the forest you can find the restored remains of the famous defenceplan of Menno van Coehoorn (Fort Roovere, 1628). It's a part of the 17 th century Dutch defence against Spain and later on France ( de West-Brabantse Waterlinie) .By car you are in 35 min. in the centre of Antwerp, in 45 min. in Rotterdam, in 1hr. 45 min. in Amsterdam, in 1hr. 30 min. at Schiphol, 50 min. from the Efteling, a big attractionpark with fairytales, theater, rollercoasters etc. and in 1 hr. you are at the beach, the Northsea.
