My wife Sonia and I are originally from the province of Québec. We call Victoria home since 1992. We are teachers in Esquimalt (5 min from home). We have two wonderful sons aged 5 and 4. We are looking for more than just a house exchange: we hope to meet great people in the process and try a more authentic way to discover your part of the world. We certainly want to offer this on our end. This will be our first house exchange (got to start somewhere!) but we are well traveled and very respectful of other cultures and open to the world.
My mother lives alone with her cat in a separate inlaw suite. She is still very active as a volunteer locally and was involved with volunteer nursing abroad (Africa). She is very quiet, discret and respectful.

Our home is on a quiet street with friendly neighbors. The house is 2,500 square feet. Our neighbors are helpful and trustworthy. Our house is well maintained, updated, clean and practical. We have a great private,landscaped and fully fenced backyard with a two level deck (one under a gazebo during summer, one under the sun) and a wood play structure (monkey bars, swings, climbing wall and slide) in case you have kids or simply need the exercise!
Adult and children bikes available. Guitars, piano and keyboard for your enjoyment! We also have a canoe; great lakes close by. The main living area is on the upper level is very bright with three bedrooms (master bedroom with queen size bed, bunk beds in second and single bed in third) There is also a double bed in the multi-purpose room downstairs-also our guest room) Two full bathrooms (one on each level). Three large windows in sunken living room with partial mountain views (Mount Finlayson with giant cedars one of the many great hikes in the vicinity and the Malahat mountain range). Separate formal dinning room or eat on country kitchen table in large kitchen.
My mother lives alone in our in-law suite. It is a two bedroom suite fully enclosed with separate entrance, separate phone line. Our house was custom built that way to allow my mother to keep full independence and privacy while being close to us.

Vancouver Island, Victoria BC. Great Central Location!
In quiet Saanich (Gorge Tillicum area) yet 4.5 km away (about a 7 min drive) from popular touristic downtown (Inner Harbor, Parliament, Empress Hotel, Royal BC Museum and Imax, whale watching, float plane tours, charter sail boats, great SCUBA diving at Ogden Point, Beacon Hill Park, Dallas rd, numerous beaches, world class golf courses, etc). Just outside of Victoria you will find Zip line Adventures, BC Ferry terminal to Vancouver or beautiful Gulf Islands, Malahat drive to charming little towns like Chemainus or Parksville (all great day trips with car)
Our house is also 0.5 km away from main junction of famous Galloping Goose (beautiful and historic city-nature trails network 60 km long perfect for discovering Victoria and surrounding communities on bike or on foot). Swan Lake-Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary is a short 15 minute walk from home. World Famous Butchard Gardens is a mere 20 min. drive.
There are also two major shopping centers a 10 minute walk away (the new Uptown complex featuring upscale boutiques, central plaza and an outdoor feel whereas the well established Tillicum Mall features great movie theater and typical indoor North American shopping mall.
We know Vancouver Island really well and we will be happy to help you plan your stay here. We know the little gems off the beaten path and can help you customize your vacation depending on your preferences. Our Island has something for everyone (great winter ski (Mt Washington) and great surf (Tofino).
