From our house it's a short walk to the village of Hakendover. There you can find 3 cafés. Among them café Maures. Very friendly people who collect and show objects of the First World War. If you get lucky, Erwin might invite you to his private museum... They also do one-menu-restaurant every Saturday witch is very popular. You will need to make a reservation if you would like to go there. They have a lovely backyard where you can sit in when the weather is nice.

In Zoutleeuw (15 minutes drive) there is an exceptional natural reservation called "Het Vinne" It is actually a very large pool with lot's of bird wildlife. It takes about an hour to walk around it. Very beautifull! Zoutleeuw also has a nice, strange little city center sinds it used to be a promising city in the middle ages, but it's evolution stopped. In "De Lakenhalle" you can have a nice modest meal in a historical place. It might be necessary to make a reservation there as well.

Leuven is only 12 minutes train away, or 20 minutes by car. It is a very known, lively and beautiful city. If you would go there and you would like vegetarian food, "Het Strand" is highly recommended.
