Our home is located in a cul-de-sac on a small development of 48 houses in the lovely village of Derry Hill. Within an easy walk is the magnificent stately home of Bowood, home to the Earl of Shelbourne and the historic location of the discovery of Oxygen by Priestly. The grounds and house are open to the public from April - November and there are several footpaths that can be accessed across the grounds from the house. Bowood estate also has a good golf course and a hotel and spa also within a few minutes walk. The beautiful Regency city of Bath with its Georgian architecture and historic Roman baths is an easy 15 minute drive away or a very short train journey from near by Chippenham station. Stonehenge and the cathedral city of Salisbury are an easy 45 minues drive. The M4 (main East/West road from London to Bristol) is approx 15 minutes away making central London about a 90 minute drive or again, a train ride from Chippenham. Wales and the South West can be reached within an hour. Wiltshire is a beautiful county, renown for the "White Horses" carved into the hill sides of the Wiltshire Downs, one of which can be seen from Derry Hill. The Landsdowne Arms pub is within the village, serving good food with a nice outdoor garden and views across the valley.
