We are opposite Bare Hill, the birthplace of Seneca Indian Nation. Its a Jewel of Western NY State. We also have a view of Canandaigua Lake which is 15 miles long. Canandaigua Lake is the fourth largest of the Finger Lakes, in the U.S. state of New York. It is called the "Chosen Spot" in one of the languages of the Iroquois.
Humphrey Bogart spent several summers at his parents' Canandaigua Lake cottage when he was a boy, just down the road from our house. Celebrities have been escaping the big cities and finding peace and quiet in the Finger Lakes for decades.

Canandaigua Lake's steamboat era ran from 1827 with the launching of the Lady of the Lake and ended in 1935 when the Idler discontinued passenger service. There were fourteen major boats that provided commercial service on Canandaigua Lake. Today, the Canandaigua Lady, a 19th-century replica of a double-decked paddleboat, continues this tradition.
The Native Americans and white settlers signed the Treaty of Canandaigua just north of the lake. This parchment, which is in the Memorial Museum, has the names of a number of famous Indian chiefs including Red Jacket, Cornplanter, Handsome Lake, Farmer's Brother, and Fish Carrier.
The lake is a popular second home destination for families from nearby Rochester, New York, as well as other parts of the Northeast. The lake has been well documented as the second most expensive lake front property in the United States (behind Lake Tahoe).
Five marinas are located on Canandaigua Lake and offer boat storage, sales, rentals, and provide boat access.
Other interesting closeby cities are Ithaca and Skaneateles with the best Fish and Chips, plus the Town of Pittsford NY with a Canal walk and Plaza with our favourite supermarket, Trader Joes, and Naples NY Village and Theatre.
The Fingerlakes boast more than 135 museums, more than 80 art galleries, more than 400 registered historic sites and landmarks, 14 professional theatre companies, 1,063 waterfalls and gorges, more than 100 wineries, 20 tour boats, 650 miles of shoreline, at least 100 restaurants with waterside views, more than 50 farmers markets, 26 state parks, a 16,036 acre national forest, more than 128 species of fish, 100 miles of the historic Erie Canal, 17 mile Grand Canyon of the East, more than 2,000 miles of hiking and biking trails, 40 nature centres and 160 golf courses!
