Descrizione della casa che offriamo
Our family home is a 2 storey with large secluded back garden. On the ground floor we have a large kitchen/ dining room, lounge, double bedroom and a family bathroom with a shower above the bath. Upstairs we have 2 double bedrooms and a bathroom with a walk in shower.
Our garden is mature with lots of lovely trees, shrubs and flowers and has decking and a patio area - great for barbecues when the weather is good. We have 2 small unfenced ponds with a stream running between which wouldn’t be safe for young children.
Bathgate is a small town in West Lothian, ideally placed for day trips to Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Central Belt.
West Lothian has a rich history of its own with the pretty little town of Linlithgow only 15 minutes away. Here you will find Linlithgow Palace, birth place of Mary Queen of Scots. There is a lovely walk round Linlithgow Loch and the town has interesting shops and lots of good cafes and restaurants.
Between Bathgate and Linlithgow is Cairnpapple, one of the most important prehistoric sites in Central Scotland. It was an important site for ceremonies and burials for at least 4000 years. The views from the top of the hill across to Fife are stunning.
We have 3 country parks in West Lothian. The biggest is Beecraigs also between Bathgate and Linlithgow. There are lovely walks through the woods, a trout loch and deer. There is a visitors centre with a cafe. The other 2 parks are smaller. Polkemmet has short walks and the Scottish Owl Centre. Almondell has la lovely riverside walk and a small visitors centre with a cafe.
Livingston is about 5 miles away and is great for shopping - it has the Centre which includes a McArthur Glenn Designer Shopping Outlet.
We are close to South Queensferry where you can see all three of the forth bridges and Hopetoun House which is one of Scotland’s finest stately homes with beautiful parklands. South Queensferry is a very pretty little town with lots of good restaurants and shops. Port Edgar is the Marina with a very good restaurant, Scott’s, which has stunning views of the bridges.
You can also take the ferry to North Queensferry and to Deep Sea World from here.
A little further afield - but only 20 minutes by train from Bathgate, is of course the beautiful city of Edinburgh. Whether it’s Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace ,historical buildings and architecture, museums, art galleries - Edinburgh has it all! You can immerse yourself in history and talk a walk down the Royal Mile or in the Georgian New Town. The Royal Botanical Gardens are beautiful or you can climb up Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park for stunning views.
The Edinburgh Festival and The Military Tattoo is a yearly event in August but there’s always plenty of theatre, film, music and arts all year round.
Shopping is excellent in Edinburgh with plenty of whisky, craft beers and gin locally produced. Lovely Scottish textiles and woollens as well as exquisite jewellery and glass. Don’t forget to try Haggis while you are here!
40 minutes from Bathgate by train to the west is Glasgow. A vibrant city with beautiful sandstone buildings and plenty to do. Unfortunately Glasgow School of Art is closed due to a fire in 2018 but there are plenty of other examples of Charles Rennie Mackintosh architecture and art. The House for an Art Lover was designed by Mackintosh and his wife and was only finished in 1989, the plans unused for 80 years. The Willow Tea Rooms has recently been refurbished to as near the original rooms as possible with beautiful stained glass, furniture and cutlery. There is the Tenement House an almost undisturbed record of life in Glasgow in the early 20th Century. The City Chambers in George Square is worth a visit as is the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The Hungarian Gallery at Glasgow University contains Scotland’s largest print collection.
Glasgow has some excellent restaurants and coffee shops particularly in the West End.
You can have a day trip to the Scottish Borders which is full of little towns and if you like woollens there are lots of mills and shops selling beautiful cashmere pieces. Good walking and mountain biking in the Borders too.
From Bathgate you can have a day trip to the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies. A little further on is Stirling - still only 45 minutes by car - and you can visit Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument at the Bannockburn Centre.
So within an hour of Bathgate you can see so much of Scotland.
We are 20 minutes from Edinburgh Airport and about an hour from Glasgow Airport. We have a good train service to Edinburgh and Glasgow from Bathgate Railway station. We are 5 minutes away from the M8 motorway between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
