We are a retired couple with 3 grown up children. One of our sons lives in Madrid so we often travel to Spain and are happy to consider exchanges in other parts of Spain. Another son lives in New York State so we are also interested in exchanges where we could all meet up. We have had wonderful exchanges in the USA and all over Europe and enjoy discovering new cultures and countries.

We had a very positive exchange in Cardiff, in Dave and Lottie’s modern and comfortable house with a charming garden close to the bus stop. We was 6 persons and the house had a lot of space for al of us (3 toilets!) We really liked Cardiff and had some good day trips to Barry , Tenby , Bath and Sugarloaf mountain. We wish we had one more week and hopefully we’ll come back another year. Dave and Lottie took excellent care of our two cats at home. The communication was very good before and during our stay. We deeply recommend to exchange with them if you want to explore Cardiff and surroundings.

We enjoyed a lovely time in Dave and Lottie’s home. On arrival we found a delicious fish pie in the fridge andba box of chocolates on the table next to all information,?brochures and maps which we needed. In the livingroom were beautiful flowers, we felt very welcome. We especially loved the conservatory which looked out over the garden with beautiful roses. Thanks again !

Please note we have an exchange arranged July/August 2024.

We live in a good-sized detached house in a residential area within walking distance of countryside, lake, reservoirs and supermarkets and with easy access to the city centre.

Cardiff is the capital of Wales and has a thriving cultural life including outstanding venues in Cardiff Bay. It houses the National Assembly for Wales and has many theatres and museums. The city Centre itself has many parks, a castle and lots of shops. There are Roman remains at Caerleon and a wealth of historic sites and castles within easy reach. Nearby attractions are the Brecons (mountains), an un-spoilt historic Jurassic coastline, the National Botanic Gardens and many lovely walks and lots of good restaurants and pubs. Further afield there is Snowdonia in North Wales renowned for its natural beauty and Pembrokeshire with the historic town of St Davids and Tenby. You can reach England easily from here by car or train. It is 1 hour to Bristol, 1 hour 15 minutes to Bath (historic Roman town) and 1 hour 50 minutes by train to London.

Enjoy the Welsh language and culture and explore the wonders of 3 national parks. Wales is relatively undiscovered but has much to offer. The Welsh are known for their hospitality and musical traditions all set within a compelling landscape.

I nostri consigli su cosa non perdere in questa zona

There are a number of good walks straight from the house going through local parks up to the Ridgeway. Llanishen and Lisvane reservoirs are 10 minute walk away with cafe/restaurant, sailing, canoeing and open water swimming. This is the perfect base to explore South Wales with its mountains, outstanding jurassic coast line and fairytale castles. The Brecon Beacons (mountains) are nearby and there are a wealth of museums within the city or in the vicinity. Visit St Fagans to appreciate Welsh history and see houses throughout the centuries. Enjoy first class music and opera at the Royal Welsh College of Music and the Wales Millenium Centre on the waterfront. Choose from a wide variety of restaurants of all world cuisines. Walk through the arcades to find unusual gifts or enjoy a modern expansive shopping area. Discover Welsh culture and enjoy trying to speak the language! Cardiff is by the sea with a thriving bay area and countless restaurants and pubs to visit. We are 1 hour from Bristol, 1 hour 15 minutes from Bath, a historic Roman town, and 1 hour 50 minutes from London by train.
