Hølen is a small and thightly knit village/community with a long history. First as a trading spot for the local farmers, then as a small industrial community with the only liquor store in miles (which made the place the only tax haven in Norway for nearly 20 years!). Later it developed into something close to an artist community with writers and painters moving in. Today it's a mixed community of people who works locally as well as a lot of people commuting to Oslo. Hølen got it's own grocery store as well as a cafe (it's our next door neighbor). Hølen sits by the Såna river, and follow that (on a bike path) down to the Oslo fjord, and you'll arrive in the coastal community of Son. A small, quiet town by the sea that is very popular in the summertime. There's a number of nice beaches down by the fjord, and they're all easy to access. Either by bicycle (we have a number of those) or car. In the forests around Hølen there's a number of opportunities for nice hikes, runs or rides.
