Ours is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom (plus loft) mudbrick/timber slab home set on 2 acres. We are surrounded by trees including lots of fruit trees and an organic vegetable garden in the back paddock. A wrap around balcony provides an ideal place to sit and talk to our kookaburras while enjoying a summer evening wine. We are a 20 minute walk (or 2 minute drive) into the centre of Bellingen, a vibrant and artistic village of nearly 3,000.

The main bedroom is very large (courtesy of having a wall removed) and now includes a wood-fired stove which is very cosy to sit in front of on those occasional coolish nights. The second bedroom is currently used as a home office/gym but can easily be converted back to a bedroom with 2 single beds. The loft features a double bed although it does require climbing a ladder and watching your head, as the beams are rather low. So the house can sleep 4 comfortably or 6 if you are agile and short! The house has solar panels and solar hot water. There are ceiling fans as well as under-floor ducted heating and cooling which is zoned. That said, the most efficient use of climate control is in the lounge room which was built later with energy efficiency in mind. The old section of the house has high ceilings and no insulation so is not very energy efficient. However, we have a mild sub-tropical climate most of the year and heating and cooling is really only required for short period in the middle of summer and winter.

The house is built on the slope of a hill so there is an "underneath" section with a carport for 2 vehicles as well as a storeroom, laundry and second bathroom. (Both upstairs and downstairs bathrooms feature only showers - no baths). The front lawn features a wood-fired oven and directly behind it is a little bungalow which we built as a guest house / office / music room. We intend to use this bungalow as a lock-up storage area to house a few of our things while we are away on exchange.

While the block is large, we have someone who comes in regularly to mow the lawns. The organic vegetable garden will be left fallow and not require any maintenance (unless of course someone is keen on growing themselves).

The house is situated at the end of a cul-de-sac so no traffic! Our neighbours are fantastic! There are no pets although on occasion the next door neighbour's dog visits to say hello.

Bellingen is a vibrant artistic and farming community of nearly 3,000 people. It is set in the lush green Bellinger Valley with the Bellinger River running through it. It is a unique town surrounded by landscapes so beautiful they have names such as Promised Land, the Never Never and Die Happy. Even our main road is called Waterfall Way! Numerous river tributaries mean lots of secret swimming holes! Or you can kayak to the coast at Urunga where the Bellinger River meets the Kalang River. The town of Bellingen offers a golf course, tennis courts, swimming pool and skateboard park. Each year it hosts a Readers and Writers Festival, a Classical Music Festival and a Winter (contemporary) Music Festival. During the summer school holidays the High School turns itself over to Camp Creative where people come from across the country to learn arts and crafts. The two pubs and numerous cafes and restaurants in town always host musicians and art exhibitions. Ten minutes east will find you pristine beaches and 30 minutes west will have you hiking in world heritage listed rainforest. I nostri consigli su cosa non perdere in questa zona

The main attractions of our village are the music and cultural festivals we put on throughout the year: Readers and Writers, Winter Music Festival, Classical Music Festival, Camp Creative, Screenwave International Film Festival, as well as numerous art exhibitions and local and international musicians who visit our town. Ours is a real community, with community food gardens and markets, and an annual Agricultural Show (where my star fruit won Best in Show this year and my chillies came second!) It is also quite an old town (by Australian standards, that is), settled by cedar-cutters in the 19th century and then transformed into dairy country. The local Historical Society and Museum documents our history. You will find numerous cafes and restaurants with artisan bakeries and breweries. It is considered to be a somewhat "alternative" village so there is plenty of scope for those who want naturopaths, yoga, meditation, organic produce and massage therapy.
