My end-terrace, part-modernised, Victorian, cottage is in the seaside village of Southwell on the Isle of Portland, in the county of Dorset, England, UK. We are situated on the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Jurassic Coast'. This is a very friendly, and particularly safe environment. The village is mostly quiet, except for summer weekends, when we get quite a few passing holiday makers - mainly walkers, birdwatchers, cyclists and people on their way to see the nearby lighthouses. We enjoy a peaceful, relaxed way of life in one of the mildest and sunniest parts of Britain. Southwell has a good restaurant and pub almost opposite the cottage. We have a church as well, and are two miles from the village of Easton where one finds, supermarkets, a health centre, pharmacy and all the amenities you are likely to need on a day-to-day basis. The Isle of Portland is seven miles from the popular holiday resort of Weymouth with a beautiful sandy beach. We have buses from our village to Weymouth approximately every ten minutes in the daytime. It is possible to take a direct train from Weymouth to London, some three hours away.
