Very central to all Berlin sightsand transportation Walk or bicycle to all the Berlin favourites It is quiet and safe with green spaces and english is spoken almost everywhere.

Close to shopping for food and basics close-by as well as sightseeing and history. Lots to see and enjoy here.
There is public swimming close-by as well as many parks, cafes, clubs and galleries.
The apartment is located at the intersection of Bernauerstrasse and Brunnenstrasse and is at the Voltastrasse subway station U8 and Tram line M10.

The area that we live in is on the northeast part of central Berlin, also known as Mitte.
In contrast, much of the western part of Berlin is much like other major cities in Germany.

I was very surprised with the level of safety here in Berlin and this neighbourhood - When I arrived, we were walking in the middle of the Park in complete darkness at one oclock in the morning with no concern - after spending time in NY this was a nice change. It is not unusual to see a woman walking by herself well after midnight. The neighbourhood is mostly 5 storey buildings populated with working people and artists. It is two blocks away from the Berlin Wall Memorial Memeorial installation which is 4 blocks long and is the center of the wall escapes from the former east Germany. On the other side, 5 blocks away, is Mauer (wall) Park which is a cultural meeting point in the summer for music, a flea market and the Bearpit, which is Karaoke in the open air for up to a thousand people or so. It is fun and July is a good time to enjoy this Berlin must-do. - lots of music and excitement.

This neighbourhood is known as an emerging place for artists and fashion designers (Brunnenstrasse) and is just opposite Prenzlauerberg which is a now-gentrified area but provides lots of nice cafes, shops, restaurants and cultural events.

Usedomer Strasse - where we live - is close to all means of public transportation (tram, bus, subway, train) but in July the best way to explore is to use bikes, as this city is all about living on your bike. We is close to Museum Island which has amazing work of the western masters as well as unique exhibitions of Egyptian and eastern civilisations - Pergammon museum is Very impressive as is Nefertiti.

There is lots of music - and the people are laid-back for the most part.

In the neighbourhood with in two blocks are all the services and shops that you need for daily living.

If it gets really hot there are lots of lakes here and plenty of day-trips and places to swim.
