We are a Franco-American couple, retired, Dominique an author and university professor, Shawn a sales director.
We are extremely experienced exchangers, having exchanged some 50+ times both in Europe and, previously, when we lived in the US. Each exchange was successful.
As a retired couple, we are not necessarily limited to exchanging during the school holiday periods.
We previously exchanged our Parisian apartment but, having now relocated definitively to the Dordogne, we offer our house here for exchange.

Description de notre maison d'échange
Our home of approximately 250 square meters seamlessly weds the traditional look of Quercy architecture to a modern, ecological extension in Siberian oak.
The original dwelling is a fully-renovated 18th-century farmhouse in local light stone with ancient roof tiles. We have stripped out all walls, to create a combined salon, dining room and kitchen of about 75 square meters, in order to maximize the light and airiness of the place. The living room features a fireplace with hand-carved woodwork on the mantel and surrounding bookcases, and a very large-screen télévision with numerous cable channels including original-language films. We have numerous DVDs and over 4,000 books, most in English, some in French. The kitchen has all conveniences. On the first floor of this part of the house there are three bedrooms offering a double bed, a queen size bed, a king size bed and of course a large bathroom with tub. This original structure is joined via a veranda all in glass and metal to the newer wing which doubles the overall size of the house. This new wing, entirely in wood, is of a contemporary design with very high windows to maximize the light. It features a large room with cathédral ceiling topped by dramatic wood carpentry, which can be used as another bedroom plus a large mezzanine accessed by a large iron work stair. This wing (which can accomodate wheel chair) includes a large bathroom with an Italian walk-in shower and a large bathtube. The floor of the entire structure is made of ardoise. With four double beds, it is capable of sleeping four couples.
The house sits on 2 acres with unimpeded visibility all the way to Auvergne in certain day. The neighbors are quiet, and the garden abuts land on which the sheep of a nearby farmer often graze. Both houses are surrounded by a large wooden terrace shaded by a pergola covered with climbing wisteria. A very pleasant place to relax on lounge chairs or barbeque in nice weather.

Description de notre quartier et ses alentours
Our house is located four kilometers from Rocamadour. Rocamadour, classed by UNESCO as a monument to humanity and one of the most visited places in France, rises from a medieval village along a dramatic canyon face into which have been integrated through the centuries magnificent basilica and ancient chapels, to a towering chateau crowning the whole. A place of veneration and religious pilgrimage for over 1,000 years, it sits in a magical locale which, as attested by local stone-age paintings, has been considered holy by human beings for millennia. As a major tourist destination, Rocamadour is home, in season, to countless cultural, gastronomic and touristic events, so you’ll always find something to do here. However, as our house is located at the edge of a village on a tiny back road rarely taken by anyone but locales, it combines proximity to this unforgettable site with great calm.
For outdoor activities, you’ll find, just a few kilometers from our home, engaging beaches on the Dordogne River, a great place for swimming but also for canoeing beneath sheer cliffs with troglodyte dwellings and towering castles. The area, preserved as a regional natural park, features a wide number of well-signposted paths for hiking or bicycling. One of our favorites takes you to the still-functioning medieval watermill of Cougnaguet nestle in its absolutely stunning valley.

Nos conseils pour des restaurants, cafés, shopping et activitiés à ne pas manquer
In addition to Rocamadour, there are, in the area, a vast number of other interesting things to visit, such as: Padirac, the most impressive grotto in Europe, with its limpid underground lake you’ll cross in a boat and its corridors of stalactites and stalagmites; Sarlat, the magnificent Renaissance walled city; Lascaux, with its just-opened high-tech Lascaux 4 facility near the equally-fascinating museum of the stone age at Les Eyzies; even closer is Pech Merle, a grotto less renowned than Lascaux but one wherein you can visit the actual cave with its 20,000-year-old Prehistoric paintings, situated near St-Cirq-Lapopie, one of the most beautiful villages in France, and Cahors with its magnificent 13th-century towered bridge; also close are the splendid gardens of Eyrignac, the breathtaking towns of la Roque-Gageac, Domme, Collonges-la-Rouge, Turenne, Carennac and Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, and the fabulous chateaux of Bretenoux, Castelnaud and Montal. As you travel to these places in the Quercy, justly famous for its untouched architecture of houses in local stone with red-tile roofs and dovecots, you’ll traverse less known but equally-lovely villages such as Autoire, Loubressac and Martel. In season, the area comes alive with cultural events, including a jazz festival at Souillac, a theatre festival at Figeac, music and opera under the stars in the courtyards of chateaux at St Ceres, a literary festival at Brive and a world-famous multi-cultural event at Rocamadour. There is a famous spring and casino at Alvignac, and nearby golf and tennis.

We are a French-American couple, retired, Dominique an author and professor, Shawn a sales director. We are very, very experienced home-exchangers, having exchanged 50+ times both in Europe and, previously, in the United States, all successfully. We exchanged our Paris apartment many times, but now have relocated full-time to the Dordogne.
As a retired couple, we are not necessarily limited to school-holiday periods. In other words, we are open to exchanges both during and outside the school-holiday periods.
