We are in our late 60's. We're both active non smokers and since our retirement have enjoyed spending more time caravanning, cruising, walking, and travelling. Our indoor interests are visiting museums and galleries and learning about the culture and history of each place we visit. In the outdoors, we love to explore each city or town on foot and to sample the local food and wine, or take to the walking trails or gardens.
We have loved all of our HomeLink home swaps as it has enabled us to travel to places that we did not anticipate visiting. It has allowed us to extend our holidays and also experience living like a local.

Read More...Our exchange in Mt. Waverly, Australia, was wonderful. Julie and Pete have a lovely home. We felt comfortable right away. There home is located a 5 minute walk to the train station. We found it very easy to navigate the train schedule. We took advantage of this transportation almost every day. The walk to the train took us by lovely scenery and birds singing in the trees. I tried my best to see what birds were singing, but no luck. You may be more successful. There were nice places to eat close by, and that is very important to us. After a long walk or a train ride to the CBD (Central Business Center) we could relax in their home and watch a movie on Netflix. While we were in Melbourne, we took the train to the city to experience the "Moomba" festival. There was lots of food, music, activities for children and water skiing competitions. While in Melbourne, we visited the Immigration Museum located near Flinders Station. We found it interesting and learned a lot about early history of Melbourne. We would recommend it. We also spent the day at the Melbourne Zoo. Some animals were resting (it was a warm day) but we did get to see a koala bear in a tree and a kangaroo taking a nap. Many animals were being cared for after the fires that consumed lots of areas earlier. It was a nice day. Another day we took the train to the CBD and walked to Fitzroy Gardens. The grounds were beautiful and we were able to visit the family home of Captain Cook, who figures in the history of Australia. The home was Captain Cook's fathers home. It was dismantled in England and brought to Australia brick by brick and reassembled in Fitzroy Gardens. We were able to visit the Melbourne harbor. We had heard that there were little penguins that come ashore at dusk. We took pictures. It was a highlight of our trip. There is a trolley system in downtown Melbourne. We used this transportation on occasion and were able to visit Docklands area. There were very nice restaurants and shops. This exchange was one of our favorites and we would recommend it to anyone.

Description de notre quartier et ses alentours
Mount Waverley is a quiet and conservative suburb of Melbourne and is 15 km east of the CBD. It is a typical Australian suburb with friendly neighbours and within 5 minute walk of our local shops which has supermarkets, banks, butchers, green grocers, cafes, library and many others. The shopping centre has a nice village atmosphere. We are also within a 5 minute walk to the train station and bus transport which makes it very easy to travel to and around Melbourne. If travelling by car the M1 freeway is very close. Quality shopping centres, cinemas and restaurants are all within easy reach.

Nos conseils pour des restaurants, cafés, shopping et activitiés à ne pas manquer
From our house it is a short walk to lovely cafes and quality restaurants. Alternately 10 minutes by car or train to Glen Waverley with access to over 30 restaurants with many different food types.
The Scotchman's Creek Trail is only a short walk/ride away and is a pleasant place for a walk or ride, it can be accessed through Valley Reserve which has some of the last remaining local indigenous vegetation.
Use Melbourne's great transport system to visit the city, 30 minutes by train, then the free tram around the CBD and Docklands. Use the same ticket (MyKi card) on trams, trains and buses all around Melbourne.
Drive to the Dandenong Ranges for walks in the parks, great views and scones, jam and cream.
Drive to the Yarra Valley for lunch at one of the great wineries there.
