We were able to visit many interesting places in N Tasmania, walked in the Cradle Mt. park and went to the (wet) west coast.. We visited the seahorse centre and the echidnea and platypus rescue centres. We also found Devonport an interesting city, so although the stay was short we crammed a full and varied agenda.

It was a pleasure to get to know them and their beautiful part of Australia and relax in their home during our exchange. Devonport and surrounding areas had more options - especially for outdoor activities - than we could explore in our 10 days there.

Read More...It was a pleasure to meet Liz and Scott. They did everything imaginable to make our holiday enjoyable, starting with collecting my travel friend and me from the airport in Launceston and driving us to Devonport via the scenic route. They provided valuable local knowledge and brochures for travel further afield. We enjoyed their company. Their house is comfortable and in a quiet area. Beach and riverside walks were highlights. Devonport is a central location from which to explore other areas of Tasmania. I love a winter holiday. Liz and Scott are welcome at my place any time.

Loved being able to unwind and relax in your spacious home, walk to the beach, drive along the ocean road and then pop into the countryside and enjoy farming communities. Especially enjoyed visiting the Emu Gardens in Burnie and the Arboretum outside Penguin. Love the fragrance of the Australian bush and the bird song that emanates from the trees. We have returned home feeling refreshed and restored.

A walk to the river through the Australian bush land were the birds were singing, a walk to the beach to take in the salty air all within 10 minutes. This was a perfect place to stay and explore some of the NW of Tasmania, its changing countryside from pastures to a beautiful coastline. Not being hikers we were still able to enjoy much, one being the Taste of Tasmania Trail - fresh produce straight from the farm. Fully recommend a stay in Devonport.

Scott and Liz were could not have been more helpful and hospitable, not only to us but also to our extended family who joined us at various times during our stay. The house suited us perfectly, being only metres from the beach and the steam train - ideal for the young grandchildren! We thought we would spend more time travelling around the island, but in fact found more than enough to entertain us in the surrounding area. Highlight of the trip were the wild wombats of Cradle Mountain! Thanks, Scott and Liz, for a great trip!

Description de notre maison d'échange
Devonport is situated on the North West Coast of Tasmania, an island off the Southern coast Australia. Tasmania is 68,000 square km and has a population of 500,000. Devonport has a population of 26,000. There is a local airport with a one hour flight to Melbourne and an overnight ferry that travels between Devonport and Melbourne.
Our home is just 2 minutes walk from a beautiful beach and river setting and a 40km bicycle path runs past our back door. A new aquatic centre and gym are a 10 minute walk along the bike path. We have excellent kayaks and bicycles for use.
We have a four bedroom, 2 bathroom home. Three rooms have queen beds the other we use as an office, but can be used as a single bedroom. The forth bedroom also comes with en-suite and small kitchenette. There is a very spacious weatherproof indoor/outdoor entertaining area. We have a gymnasium with wide range of equipment.
Our modest home is a short walk from the town centre of Devonport, yet it is a quiet location. The house is easy to live in and close to an excellent supermarket, a good range of shops, library and facilities, eateries, and pubs.
Our car is a 5 speed manual Mitsubishi Lancer and has a Tasmanian Parks pass paid for.
The Northern part of Tasmania has such world-wide attractions as Wineglass Bay and Cradle Mountain. It is a bushwalkers paradise with beautiful beaches in summer and snow in winter.
We would love to swap Europe anytime and Australia as we are both retired. We are keen travellers and are prepared to look at any and all offers overseas and Australia.

Description de notre quartier et ses alentours
Our neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful. You will get nightly visits (outside the fence) of wallabies, possums and plenty of native birdlife. With beaches and a river very close the kayaks are very useful as are the bikes on the bike path over the back fence. Several golf courses within a 20 minute drive.
