We're both voracious readers with wide interests. Regina is an enthusiastic gardener and, for decades, directed the statewide, nonprofit organization that led the successful campaign for state and local policies and legislation for smokefree workplaces and public places. Kenneth is a keen amateur photographer and worked for more than 30 years in the aerospace and telecommunications industries. In our exchanges, we tour historic houses and sites, visit gardens and museums, walk about small towns, and delight in being in other places as temporary "residents".

Description de notre maison d'échange
Our home:
Light-filled home; three-room master suite with fireplace, balcony; great decks, garden.
17 miles to NYC, not far to ocean, Philadelphia, rich resources of NE American coast.
Our exchange partners have found Summit and area full of beauty and interest.
Description:
Our home, garden, car, and location: We've updated our handsome old house with a new kitchen and more. Our three-room master suite (bedroom with balcony, king-size bed; sitting room with fireplace and snack center; large dressing room) is up in the treetops, as is our newly renovated bathroom with a walk-in shower. We think our laundry with two large washers and dryers, a big table for folding laundry, a toilet cubicle, and three windows, is a real luxury. Our garden has been featured in national and local garden open days programs and local magazines and newspapers. Our car is a 2017 Subaru Forester with many safety, navigational, and comfort features. It's just four blocks, a little over a half mile, to downtown and the train station.
For more photos of our home, Summit, and our area, go to homeexchange.com and search on Summit, New Jersey -- we're the only Summit listing.

Description de notre quartier et ses alentours
Summit and nearby: Summit is in the foothills west of New York City. It was a resort town in the 1800s and is now a city of about 20,000 with many amenities, where the average house price is between one and two million dollars. It's leafy and lovely and walkable, with sidewalks and a "destination downtown"with many restaurants, shops, theatres, a wonderful library, parks and playgrounds (the Independence Day fireworks, in Memorial Field, just a block away, can be viewed from our decks or balcony) and the Reeves-Reed Arboretum, plus the New Jersey Center for the Visual Arts. The city government website is cityofsummit.org and entering "Summit, New Jersey" online brings up lots of information from Wikipedia, summitdowntown.org, a New York Times article from 2015, Flickr, realtors, and others. The Watchung Reservation, a 2,000 acre nature preserve is just up the street from our house.
The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is seven miles from Summit. Near it, there's the Raptor Trust, premiere US wild bird rehab center with many birds of prey to view. On the north side of town, the Mall at Short Hills is one of the fanciest in the nation, with Chanel, Dior, Tiffany, and Neiman Marcus. All around Summit are other old, historic, interesting suburbs, with museums and shops, and lovely countryside. Nearby are two National Park Service Historical Parks, the Great Falls of the Passaic River, and Thomas Edison's laboratory, home, and early movie studio in West Orange.
Our exchange partners have enjoyed much to see in addition to New York City and have been impressed with the attractiveness and variety of things to do in Summit. That's why partners from the Cotswolds, Yorkshire, and Scotland have repeated exchanges here many times.

New York City, of course, has a plethora of attractions. There's easy access to New York City, 17 miles away, by train (45 minutes), bus, and car. Beyond that, from one to several hours away, there are the Jersey shore towns, including Atlantic City, plus Princeton, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Boston, the Hudson River Valley, Pennsylvania Dutch country, and the whole Northeast Shore with many interesting places.
Lieux de loisirs, sport et culture
Ce qu'on apprécie, ce qu'on apprécie moins… Voici nos préférences et nos règles de maison.
We're responsible and pleasant exchange partners seeking the same for more happy experiences, particularly in Eastern North America.
Since 1996 we've done more than 25 exchanges, ranging from two weeks to three months long, including several back-to-back exchanges and many repeat exchanges with the same partners -- proof we're good partners and our home and area are lovely places to be. (We've been members of HomeLink since 1996, joined HomeExchange.com recently, so tallys of exchanges are different on the two sites.)
We provide good information and support for our partners, including lots of tourist information, an extensive home manual with instructions about everything in the house, local services, and emergency information, as well as providing helpful notes and instructions around our house. Plus, our good friends and neighbors will welcome and help you.
We often have visits with our partners, usually at one house before, to share information on homes and areas, and the other house afterwards, to swap stories. In our exchanges with first-timers, they've particularly appreciated information we've provided in writing and phone conversations and Skype calls.
As retirees, we're not tied to children's or work schedules.
