The three of us have lived here on and off for 16 years and two of the three are Yorkshire born and bred! I currently work in York at the University of York St John, and my children go to school locally in Calderdale. We enjoy the quiet life and being outdoors. Small things excite us, like fresh eggs, cows in the field next to us, wading in rivers and ponds, eating pizzas on a friday night. The boys play a lot of football with local clubs and there is a cricket club within walking distance if you like to watch (and there is a bar) - unfortunately I cannot persuade my children to play which is a bug bear of mine!
We are about to get a hot tub - which we are excited about - and have a veggie patch that needs some work which we may or may not have got around to doing before you come! The garden, though, is well cared for and there is plenty of space.
Since lockdown we have ditched the BBC in favour of streaming services and have a PS4 with a few games. We have also enjoyed a walk everyday, or every night (it is so peaceful at night wandering the footpaths with a torch!) and have really enjoyed the quiet life and being at home. We all have bikes, which we are happy to share if we haven't taken them with us, and there is a cross trainer in the shed you are free to use.. crack of dawn, all you hear are the birds and our chickens and your own breathing of course. ;-D There is also some pilates equipment here as I am also a Pilates teacher.
Plenty of space for parking the car (but a slightly bumpy track). Children welcome (there are stairs) and there is lego here and plenty of books as well as picture books if your kids are younger.
N.B April 2021 More photos will follow but we will need to tidy the house first and mow the lawn .;-)
Note we have done house swaps before for over 5 years pre-lockdown and swapped both in the UK and abroad. We understand how it works and will make sure you have everything you need here so that you can travel as light as you like. (No baby equipment unfortunately expect for a high chair). We are happy to leave food in the oven for when you arrive and will have lots of local info. for you so you can make the most of your stay.

Description de notre maison d'échange
Our home is a Grade 2 listed detached property with a large garden that forms part of a cluster of buildings built by the Murgatroyd family who built Oats Royd Mill and were wealthy mill owners as well as landowners.
Our property sits at the back of the mill on the hillside and is private, with a view of the Mill chimney from the lounge french windows. We have a large garden which has a woodland area and we have 7 chickens we hope you can look after whilst you are here. We have two courtyards to sit in and plenty of space to wander and look at the views across the valley.
The house has 4 bedrooms and is was formerly the Ostler's cottage, the pigsty and the Dovecote. The house is set over 3 floors and the lounge is up a flight of steps whilst the Master Bedroom has an additional staircase of its own.

Description de notre quartier et ses alentours
We are positioned in the Luddenden Dean Valley and are fairly rural (though there is a bus stop at the bottom of our drive which will take you to Halifax if you wish.)
Our neighbourhood is very quiet and peaceful and there are many lovely walks from the house either walking towards the valley bottom and the village of Luddenden, up to Midgely and the moors or over to Jerusalem farm which is a woodland with lovely walks, a play area and a lake.
You are within walking distance of the pub The Lord Nelson in Luddenden village, as well as Midgely Shop for daily essentials. There is a larger shop and post office at the bottom of the hill near Burnley Road.

Nos conseils pour des restaurants, cafés, shopping et activitiés à ne pas manquer
Fro our house you can take many walks and within a short drive there are plenty of others. We will leave lots of guides in the house as well as some recommendations for you.
Our local town is Hebden Bridge which is an extremely popular destination with cafes, independent shops and the lovely Hardcastle Crags (National Trust). It has an independent cinema and plenty of restaurants as well as a market. It also has a train station.
Swimming pools - the nearest is Sowerby Bridge; Tennis - Cragg Vale or Halifax; Golf - Hebden Bridge Golf Club.
For literary fans, nearby is Mytholmroyd, famous for being the home of Ted Hughes and nearby Heptonstall is a lovely village where Slyvia Plath is buried.
Cragg Vale is also a beautiful valley and proudly claims to be the longest continual ascent in England - great if you are in to cycling?! It was also part of the route for the 2014 Tour de France.
Halifax is the largest local town which is home to the famous Piece Hall and the Eureka Museum. It also has all the usual larger shops that you might expect and has a Sainsburys and Tesco for food shopping. It is about 15 mins drive from our house.
Leeds is close by (maybe 1 hour by car or via the train) and there is Leeds/Bradford airport as well as Manchester Airport both within 1.5 hours.

Ce qu'on apprécie, ce qu'on apprécie moins… Voici nos préférences et nos règles de maison.
We haven't home swapped with this house before but anticipate it will be ideal for families and those who want to have a rural break. We are happy to do long weekend swaps (especially around bank holidays) and have school holidays where we can swap too, including the summer holidays.
We don't expect to travel abroad this year so we would like to swap with others in the UK - city or coast or rural, near and far depending on length of stay.
If 2022 is better for travel then yes we can't wait to get back on a plane and explore Europe or the US.
House Rules are as you would expect. Our house is old, so not pristine, which means we welcome families, like us who will enjoy the space and tidy before you leave! We have been here for 16 years now but as the children have grown older we have found the area to be much more interesting to explore.
My eldest is allergic to fur and feathers so unfortunately we cannot have pets inside the house. We do have chickens though and we would be grateful if you could let them out each morning and put them to bed. You can also collect the eggs and eat them of course ( we also have two locals who buy the eggs from us). We don't expect you to clean the chickens out!!!
