The beautiful town of Harrogate is an easy walk from the house - where one can find all sorts of shopping and sites. In addition, Harrogate is a great base from which to explore the Yorkshire area. We spent time driving through the Yorkshire dales and villages, as well as visiting some cities. York and Leeds airport are close by. Rachel and Mark were easy to talk to and always available for any communications we might have. The neighbors were friendly and a Colbourn family member brought us homemade baked goods to welcome us,"Fat Rascals" look it up:-) The Colbourn's home was a wonderful place to stay!

We had a very warm welcome, including some very special treats by a family member. We felt very spoilt. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this wonderful setting. It was also a great starting point to explore Yorkshire. We particularly loved the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Fountains Abbey and the charming town of Knaresborough. The weather was a bit changeable and we would love to come back another time to get more opportunities for walks/hike in the Yorkshire Dales.

Description de notre maison d'échange
We are a family of four and live in a lovely, 110-year-old house which has many original features. Our eldest daughter is now at University but we love travelling together, discovering new and unusual places. We have had nine successful home exchanges to date including Venice, Vancouver, Berlin, and Galicia. We enjoy islands or being near a river or the sea. We also like mountains, walking, museums, history, and city life and are open to all offers.
Harrogate is a beautiful town and is frequently chosen as one of the best places to live in England. We are a 10-minute walk from the town centre and have beautiful countryside and historic castles, abbeys and stately homes on our doorstep. We are also half an hour from Leeds and York. If you'd like to use our home as a base for visiting bigger cities, we are a 10-minute walk from the train station. Harrogate is under 3 hours from London by train and 5 hours from Edinburgh. Car exchange is negotiable. All our visitors have loved Yorkshire and we are sure you will too.
Mark and I have worked in education for over 20 years and make the most of our holidays. We have a lovely, gentle tabby cat who just needs feeding twice a day but will love sitting on your lap whenever you are free. We are happy to look after your pets and plants.

Description de notre quartier et ses alentours
Harrogate is a beautiful Victorian spa town. In 2015 it was chosen as the start of the Tour de France and in 2019 hosted the cycling world championships. Harrogate is also home to the famous Betty's tea rooms, Harlow Carr Gardens, and Harrogate spa water. The town centre is renowned for the variety of its independent shops and restaurants. If you want to experience Harrogate’s spa history, you can visit the Turkish Baths or the Royal Pump Rooms Museum. A five-minute walk from our house takes you to a convenient range of independent shops, a cafe, two supermarkets and takeaway food options

Nearby are the national parks of the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors with stunning countryside and ample opportunities for walking, cycling, climbing, etc. If you visit during the summer, there are country shows, working farms and many other places for families to visit. 22 miles away is the world-famous ancient walled city of York, with its Viking and Roman remains. We are also only 28 miles from Howarth where the famous Bronte sisters lived. 15 miles away is the World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey, encompassing the largest abbey ruins in the country and some of England’s most spectacular Georgian water gardens. There are many castles and stately homes to visit in the area, including Harewood House, Newby Hall, and Ripley Castle. A short journey could take you to Whitby, a fascinating port on the coast, the renowned Yorkshire Sculpture Park or into the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

1 and a half hours from Manchester Airport.
