Description de notre maison d'échange

**We are now searching for a two-week exchange in central London at the start of September**

Our 2-storey villa (215 sq metres) dating from the 1880s, is sunny with sea views and close to Napier's wonderful amenities, including museum, numerous cafes, cinema, seaside walking/cycling pathways, spa pool complex with hot pools, Napier shopping precinct. The history of Napier following its 1931 earthquake and rebuild in art deco style architecture interests many of our visitors. It is situated in a very friendly neighbourhood.
We have enjoyed 17 years of home exchanging and we are strong advocates for the rich relationships that result from sharing one's home. We have done over 40 exchanges and have some regular repeat 'exchange' friends in new Zealand!

Description de notre quartier et ses alentours

We are walking distance to coastal walks, seaside hot spa/pool complex, numerous cafes, a 180 kilometre network of off-road coastal and wetland walkways (cycling or walking), a Saturday farmers' market (Napier) and heritage architecture guided walks. A favourite with visitors is the art deco earthquake memorial week-end held each year in the third week-end of February. [Napier was destroyed by an earthquake in 1931]. The town turns into a popular street party with locals and visitors dressing in art deco style. A short drive from our home takes you to the historic port of Ahuriri, where you can wander around galleries and cafes, or if feeling more strenuous, walk the Ahuriri wetland walk, enjoying local seabirds along the way. A 25 minute drive takes you to celebrated Havelock North Village, a mecca for shoppers and those looking for a quiet coffee or a movie at the boutique cinema.

Nos conseils pour des restaurants, cafés, shopping et activitiés à ne pas manquer

Hawkes Bay is noted as one of the food bowls of New Zealand (check out the 2 Farmers' Markets) and is one of the largest grape-growing areas in the country. Many of the local vineywards have winery cafes/restaurants or cellar doors where one can buy and taste the wine. Each year we visit a new and different vineyard for our wedding anniversary and we can't decide on our favourite, although Clearview estate is a winner for informal lunches. As keen golfers and members of the Maraenui Golf Course, we can recommend one of the beautiful golf courses in the Hawkes Bay. Two boutique cinemas (Event cinema in Havelock North and the Globe in Ahuriri) provide an interesting selection of Arthouse movies. If bird watching is your thing, we can recommend a visit to the Cape Kidnapper's Gannet Colony or a walk around the estuary walk at Ahuriri. Being health foodies, we are proud to boast one of the largest organic shops in the country - Chantals - only 5 minutes walk from our home.

In 2024 we are planning a 6-month trip (April to September) to Europe with France being our top destination, but also London, Germany and Edinburgh . Return exchanges in 2024 might need to be non-sim. We prefer longer exchanges centrally located in towns/cities, rather than remote rural locations. We are attracted to heritage homes and villages or coastal locations in particular.

We do have a small studio/apartment in Lyall Bay, Wellington if that interests you. It is 45 sq metres and only has one bedroom with queen bed. It's on public transport routes into the city and 2 blocks from the beach. Some New Zealand couples have enjoyed this option.

We count it a privilege to be welcomed into someone else's home and would treat your place as we do our own, with utmost care!
