Marc is an artist, an interior designer and contractor for home and office renovations, and a singer/songwriter/guitar player. Patti is retired from teaching and loves to cook and bake (especially using healthy, local and fresh ingredients), is a published author, an avid cyclist, and loves dance, sports, piano, photography and reading. We are an active couple in our 60s and we enjoy traveling, cycling, wine, food and the arts. Our exchanges have been to France (twice), Netherlands and Switzerland. (We have an adult son who doesn't travel with us...he is currently studying electrical engineering and lives with his girlfriend, but he is a good resource for you when you're here! He speaks English & French.)

Description de notre maison d'échange
We have a European exchange for summer 2023 so would accept invitations to International destinations for 2024. We are open now, however for shorter 4-7 day exchanges to various places in BC at other times this year. We love to travel and we enjoy meeting people everywhere we go. We like to try new food and wine. And we like to see the beauty each country has to offer.
We live in a new, bright and airy contemporary home with high ceilings, a southern exposure view of the ocean and Olympic Mountains from all principal rooms (and 2 warm and gorgeous decks to enjoy the ocean view) and a well-equipped kitchen with a large kitchen island.
We are at the summit of a mountain overlooking Royal Bay, just 15 km outside of Victoria in a quiet neighborhood with lots of nature, shopping, restaurants and various amenities nearby. Our house has 3 bedrooms (one of them is an office), 3 bathrooms, an upper and lower deck facing the ocean, a large, bright and well-equipped kitchen, and an open concept living space. We have a BBQ, fitness equipment (spin bike, free weights, yoga mat, etc.), infrared sauna, 2 bicycles, a piano & wifi. Friendly and helpful neighbors and relatives to guide your daily activities & experiences (including some French and Spanish speaking). It's just a 5-minute drive to the ocean beach and a 10-minute drive to various trails, hikes, nature walks and hikes.
Victoria has a lot to offer. Beautiful inner harbour with a lot going on in the summer. Check out: http://www.tourismvictoria.com. There are 15 wineries within 30-minute drive; and many more wineries up the island. We highly recommend going to Tofino for an overnight trip. The Gulf islands are beautiful and easily accessed by short ferry trips.) Victoria boasts mild weather, beautiful scenery, beaches and interesting coastline, cycling trails (check out The Galloping Goose Trail), whale-watching, kayaking, surfing, sailing & boating, golf courses, theatre & the arts, and First Nations arts and culture. Vancouver & Whistler a 1.5 hour ferry trip. 35-minute drive to ferries that take you to Vancouver, Whistler, Gulf Islands...or to Seattle and Port Angeles in USA. Check out famous Butchart Gardens http://www.butchartgardens.com and hellobc.com. BC Ferries are frequent and easy to use.
We have an extensive "Home Manual" that will help you navigate inside the home, in our city and areas nearby, and to our favorite day and overnight excursions.

Description de notre quartier et ses alentours
Victoria is a beautiful city. We live just outside the city of Victoria in Colwood, in a new and very quiet residential area. We have friendly/helpful neighbours. We live in a more suburban and rural area, yet we are close to so many amenities: restaurants, shopping, bakeries, parks, ocean, golf courses, walking/running/biking trails, lakes, beaches, recreation facility with pool, library, wine store, etc. Victoria boasts some of the best golf courses in Canada... and because of the temperate climate here, they are open all year around. We enjoy the outdoors all year round.

Nos conseils pour des restaurants, cafés, shopping et activitiés à ne pas manquer
We are a 25-minute walk (5-minute drive) to the ocean/beach. We have an abundance of beaches, parks and trails nearby. (These 2 links show some of the beaches that are close to us: https://sooke-portrenfrew.com/listings/category/activity/beaches/ and https://travelingbc.com/best-sandy-beaches-victoria-bc/) We have a large recreation facility that is 10 minutes away, which includes a library, swimming pools, work-out rooms, golf course, zipline, 25-minute trail around it all, etc. We are a 5-minute drive to major shopping areas for wine stores, groceries, bakery, spas, etc. Victoria has more restaurants per capita than any other city in Canada. There are several wineries on Vancouver Island. Be sure to check out fishermans' wharf--a great place for seafood. We are 5-minute bike ride to the Galloping Goose Trail which is part of the Trans Canada Trail system (great for walking, riding bikes or roller blading) and you can easily ride for 25-50 km in any one direction. The famous Sooke Potholes and Butchart Gardens are both about 30 minute drive from our home. Highly recommended for overnight trips: Tofino, Gulf Islands or Whistler. The arts scene is alive and well in Victoria with music, theatre, art galleries ongoing year round. Outdoor productions (including the captivating buskers in the inner harbour) are plentiful in spring and summer months.
