My husband and I are both academics with positions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We have two children and live in the city of Madison, WI in a great neighborhood near restaurants, coffee shops, and small, local stores. One of us is from Europe, while the other from the US - and as such, we enjoy traveling domestically and abroad! We love urban and grand cities, but equally enjoy camping and being outside in the mountains or by the sea. We live a simple but plentiful lifestyle and have set up our home in this way too. Our two boys - ages 9 and 11 - enjoy soccer, swimming, musical instruments, books, board games, chess, and spending time outside doing anything! We are non-smokers, prefer a neat and tidy home, enjoy spending Sunday morning with coffee and the newspaper, and getting outside in the sun whenever we can!

Description de notre maison d'échange
Summer 2019: Currently looking for non-simultaneous exchange for one week. Our home will be available August 4-10, 2019. We could stay at your home another time. Pls see dates for other availability.
Our home, on the west side of Madison, is in a wonderful, quiet spot with a lovely, large backyard garden that backs up to a bike path. The house, built in 1920, has all hardwood floors, wood molding, and clean, simple lines and furniture. We have space for 6 people; 1.5 bathrooms; a gas fireplace; ping pong table; bikes to use; and toys, games, and books for children! We have the greatest neighbors ever; we welcome children; and hope you enjoy the house and the city of Madison as much as we do! The house is located in an urban part of the city, within walking distance to Trader Joe's, restaurants, coffee shops, book stores and small retail shops. A 10 minute drive to the capitol and main downtown area, and a 10 minute drive to the lakes (Mendota, Menona) make this a perfect location for any type of vacation or get away. Travel by foot, bike or bus if driving isn’t for you. Madison has an active outdoor community and boasts the largest summer farmer’s market in the country!

Description de notre quartier et ses alentours
Our neighborhood is quiet, safe, walkable, and has lots of greenery in the summer. Our backyard is a specialty garden with beautiful flowers and plants. Neighbors are lovely and hospitable. Hop on the bike bath for a walk, run or bike ride -- just behind the property! We are 2-3 blocks from Trader Joe's (grocery store), book shop, several coffee shops, pharmacy, pubs, and library. A ten minute walk brings you to Lake Wingra, a small and beautiful lake with paddle boarding, canoe and kayak rental, basket ball courts, soccer field, and playground. There is even a free zoo less than a mile from the house! It's pretty spectacular.

Nos conseils pour des restaurants, cafés, shopping et activitiés à ne pas manquer
Downtown Madison, combined with the large University of Wisconsin-Madison, has a large number of restaurants, bookstores, cafes and brewpubs making this college town a great place to visit. There are more than 250 parks to choose from. If you visit the campus, be sure to try the famous Babcock Ice Cream at Memorial Union or Babcock Hall, after a visit to the Elvehjem Museum of Art's collection of Greek, Roman and Egyptian antiquities. Other places to visit include the Madison Children’s Museum, and the Olbrich Botanical Gardens.
For architecture, visit several of Frank Lloyd Wright’s buildings including the First Unitarian Meeting House of Madison and Monona Terrace. Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright's estate, is 40 miles east in Spring Green and the famous SC Johnson headquarters are in Racine (100 miles west), on the shores of Lake Michigan.
If touring by bike is your way to go, Madison has 200 miles of scenic bike trails to ride on, and you can hop on to the trail network from our backyard! Beyond the city boundaries there are hundreds of miles of country roads that are popular with road bikers and there is a huge biking community in the area, both recreational and competitive (Trek, the bike manufacturer is headquartered in nearby Waterloo).
Summer in Madison also includes lots of live music with free outdoor concerts by the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Jazz at Five, and Live on King Street. To see more, check out this link: www.visitmadison.com
Chicago is only 3 hours away and makes for a great weekend getaway with lots to do and see! Door County, a popular area for all sorts of outdoor activities, is a 3 hour drive to the Northeast of Madison.
