We are Tony and Heidi, a retired couple in our seventies. Heidi is German, an English and German language teacher and qualified aromatherapist. Tony is English, formerly a lecturer in English Language and Business Communications. We have a daughter who works with Human Rights Watch in London and three grandchildren. Most of our professional life has been spent overseas. Apart from working in France, Germany and Greece in Europe, we have also lived and worked in North Africa and the Middle- and Far-East, where apart from teaching Heidi also ran a handicraft business.
We retired to Spain seventeen years ago, living first in the mountains of Andalucia and now on the Costa Blanca. Tony spends most of his time writing - he has self-published a novel on Amazon - and Heidi teaches Spanish to new arrivals from Northern Europe.

Description de notre maison d'échange
Our home is Casa Lovina, a deluxe centrally-heated villa with a large living-dining area with stone arches, beamed ceilings and built-in log-burning stove, separate fully-equipped kitchen and utility area, three bedrooms, two bathrooms (one ensuite), a study, and a large covered south-facing outside terrace ideal for al fresco dining on sunny days even in winter months. Our villa is spacious and furnished in colonial style with chests and cupboards, Persian carpets, woven hangings, paintings, ceramic vases and handicrafts collected on travels in Africa and the Far East. Facilities include a satellite TV with a choice of UK channels, DVD player, stereo system and internet with wi-fi.
Casa Lovina is set in lavish grounds enclosed by fully-grown hedges with 10m x 4m pool and large areas of immaculately-kept lawn. The garden is private and well-developed with mature palm trees and fruit and fir trees, and filled out with oleander and hibiscus bushes and attractive rock-edged corners with flowers and plants. The 10m x 4m pool has large natural stone surrounds with loungers and garden furniture and an attractive rock garden at one end. There is also a BBQ area with a fixed table and seating and traditional Moorish-style mosaic tiling. There is driveway parking.

Description de notre quartier et ses alentours
We are located in a quiet cul-de-sac in one of the most prestigious and sought-after areas of Javea. We are only 5 minutes on foot from a small supermarket open 7 days a week, popular restaurants and a pharmacy, and 5-10 minutes by car from well-stocked international supermarkets, banks and the full range of amenities that Javea offers. We are also only 25 minutes’ walk down a quiet country lane to the the main beach and entertainment area of the town. From the villa there are also lovely walks through cliff-top pine-forest to a spectacular lookout with panoramic views out over the sea towards Ibiza.
Javea is located in the middle of one of the most beautiful stretches of the Costa Blanca coast. It is an hour and a half’s drive from Valencia to the north and Alicante to the south. There are three main areas to the town: the original Spanish village with its picturesque narrow streets and its 14th century church; the port with its waterside restaurants and fresh-fish market and its mix of fishing vessels and yachts in the marina; and the beach area with its wide promenade lined with shops, local and international restaurants, bars, discos and open-air stalls attracting a lively year-round cosmopolitan mix of local residents and visitors.

Nos conseils pour des restaurants, cafés, shopping et activitiés à ne pas manquer
Outdoor activities abound around Javea. Water sports from paddle-boarding and canoeing to scuba-diving, fishing trips, sea excursions, tennis, cycling, go-carting, golf and horse-riding are all readily available locally. The climate and the crystal-clear waters off the coast make the area excellent for scuba-diving and snorkelling, with the limestone rock of the shoreline offering many subterranean arches, walls and caves to explore.
For walkers there are countless areas to head for – not only the dramatic Costa-Blanca coastline with its stunning pine-topped cliffs and its hidden bays and pebbled coves shimmering with clear, emerald-green water, but also the inland mountain areas, crossed with exciting trails and paths, many of them dating back to Moorish times. Perhaps the most enticing walking country of all is the slopes of the Montgo mountain at Javea’s very back door. The Montgo is 2400 ft high, and its peaks and dramatic summit spine command breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding country and coastline, and on clear days of the Balearic islands of Ibiza and Majorca in the distance.
With its colourful Moorish past, there are many fiestas in Javea and the surrounding villages throughout the year. They feature bands, parades and the running of bulls, and are highlighted by brilliant firework displays.

We look to using the home-exchange experience to indulge our love of travel and to explore new countries and cultures, as well as to help our exchange partners become acquainted with the beauties of Spain and life on the Costa Blanca. We would also hope to have extended email contact with our eventual exchange partners to learn more about them and where they are coming from, and to tell them more about us and our interests, before we exchange. We have exchanged twice before, to California and to Australia, and loved both.
We take great pride in our home and look after it, and we would ask our exchange partners to do the same.
