Notre maison
Description de notre maison d'échange
We live in a very nice neighbourhood in the suburbs of Toronto (It is about a 40 minute drive into the heart of downtown).
The space for exchange is the main level and the 2nd floor of a house with a large garden.
Large kitchen, music room, new addition with large windows and ample parking in the driveway.
We are 7 kilometres from Lake Ontario, which has a bicycle trail. You can cycle many days east and west along the lakeshore.
Autumn is a beautiful time in Ontario, with the trees turning amazing hues of red and orange. There are plenty of opportunities in our area for hiking and mountain biking, as well.
Toronto is not only accessible by car, but also by a train running each 1/2 hour along the lakeshore.
On the lower level of our home (walkout basement) we run an AirBnb, which has been a joy. During a home exchange that area would either be vacant, or would be rented out to a professional person or couple. During a non-simultaneous home exchange, our guests would reside in our Airbnb. We have 4 well-tuned bicycles in our garage, which can be borrowed. They fit adults from 5'4" to 6'2" tall.

Description de notre quartier et ses alentours
Our neighbourhood is quite upscale, and mostly very quiet.
Many people from our community commute to downtown Toronto for work.
We live on the outer edge of the Greater Toronto Area, so travelling west and south gets you into denser city, and travelling east or north, one reaches farmland very quickly.
Down at Lake Ontario, 7 km south, there is much parkland for walking or cycling along the Waterfront Trail, which extends west as far as Niagara Falls, and east as far as the Quebec border. There are beaches, camping areas, picnic areas, waterparks, and good birding areas.
North of us the countryside starts within 2 km. There are opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and crosss country skiing in the winter months. Further north is cottage country with thousands of lakes that are excellent for canoeing, kayaking and other sports.

Most people travel by car around the area.
The closest store is about 1.5 km away, you can walk or drive.
A Swedish spa is currently being built a few blocks away. It is on the edge of a large conservation area, great for cycling, rollerblading and cross country skiing.

We love to be able to take our bicycle along when travelling. We love nature and not too much city life. We travel internationally once every year for up to one month. We also enjoy doing shorter trips that don't involve flying. We are retired and can possibly come on short notice if you live in North America!
As for house rules: Basically, we would like to find our home the way we left it. Hopefully it will be respected just like we would respect our host's home.
