  Excellent hosts who made our visit to Scotland a special one…..a great location to use as a base to explore the best that Scotland has to offer.

  We have enjoyed a wonderful 10 days in this beautiful part of Scotland. We were given a great tour of the lovely house and gardens by Brian, one of Billy and Eleanor’s friends as they were abroad and the communication before and during the exchange has been excellent. We watched the goslings, then the ducklings on the pond, the house martins nesting under the eaves and stunning sunsets in the evenings. The house is in an ideal position to explore pretty local towns such as Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright and lots of stunning beaches. Seeing the wild Red Kites being fed at Laurieston is a must - truly amazing! The National Trust gardens at Threave were beautiful too and we saw the Ospreys on the nest with their chicks at the nature reserve there. There was much to do locally but we did venture out to the Mull of Galloway to Logan Gardens and they were amazing. The little beaches there are stunning too. These are just some of the highlights. Thank you Eleanor and Billy for sharing your lovely home with us so that we could enjoy this special part of Scotland. Sue and Andy

• A large spacious house in the countryside.

  This exchange worked like clockwork with good communication from the start including meeting our hosts before and after the exchange. Billy and Eleanor are so friendly, generous and hospitable and we had a great time. The house is large with great space and a good garden to explore.We particularly liked seeing the variety of wildlife that inhabited the garden. All the facilities provided were of a high quality and everything you would require in an extensively well equipped kitchen. The wood burning stove was easy to operate and provided additional warmth in the evenings. The family room is bright, spacious and perfect for less cold days with wonderful all round views of the countryside. We were made to feel very welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Dalbeattie. This exchange felt like a home from home and we would highly recommend anyone thinking of coming to this part of Scotland. The location is perfect for lovely coastal and countryside walks and little towns with independent shops.

• A beautiful home in a beautiful area!

  We have many vivid and lovely memories of being in Billy and Eleanor's home. It is situated in gorgeous countryside with brilliant walks. We did lots of great day-trips: to Glasgow, to Dumfries to do a Robert Burns walking tour, to the Galloway Forest park and to the Mull of Galloway, which was beautiful. Mostly we did local walks, to Rockcliffe and Kircudbright. But you don't even really need to go out: the view from the sun-room was wonderful, and we spent many a happy hour there, sipping hot chocolate. A beautiful home in a beautiful area - thank you Billy and Eleanor for sharing it with us!

• A superb house and location

  An easy and excellent exchange. We were made to feel most welcome and had a wonderful time in this beautiful home and location. So quiet with amazing views of the sky all round the house. Very clean and tidy when we arrived and our house as immaculate on return So many beautiful beaches and villages to visit in this area. Thoroughly recommend this exchange partner.

• A perfect exchange.

  We had a wonderful time at Eleanor and Billy's beautiful and very comfortable home. The house is in a lovely peaceful location, but with bigger towns and cosy villages all nearby. There are lots interesting things to see and do within easy reach - things for sunny days and things for rainy days - something for everybody. The coast is also very near. The area also offers some very good walking. We loved it here. Thank you, everything was perfect.

• 2 weeks are too short to stay in this lovely house

  we had a very warm and friendly welcome by Eleanor and Billy. Also Brian has been very kind and helpful. The house and surroundings are beautiful. And the weather they provided us..: only 3 days of real Scottish weather; we had days of 24°! Great house and garden. Great spot of doing the South West Coastal route. We would not say no to another swop :-)
