Akumal is a beautiful fishing village known locally as the place of the turtle. Snorkeling with the turtles in the bay or with the beautiful tropical fish in Yalku Lagoon are among our favorite things to do. When you are tired of the beautiful sandy beach and palm trees, Akumal offers plenty of activities; Several diving outfits offer various levels of diving including bubble diving for children 8 years and older, fishing, sailing, sunset cruises or jungle ATV tours. The village also has many cute gift stores, two grocery stores, a spar, gym, tennis court, basketball court and a bi-weekly market. A variety of local restaurants offer excellent and inexpensive local and international dishes. Within a 30 minute drive you can reach many other places: Playa Del Carmen with its famous 5th Avenue shopping, dancing and nightlife; Tulum with numerous restaurants and gift shops; three eco water parks, Maya ruins and a swim with the dolphins park. Day trips give more cultural opportunities.
