We are a family of three from British Columbia: Cheryl, Kevan and our Australian shepherd Gus. We love traveling, and Gus comes on many vacations with us. He's quite used to traveling, is very respectful of property and has always been welcome back to hotels or homes where he's stayed. If he doesn't come with us for an exchange, he will stay with family elsewhere so he won't be at our home with you and there will be no need to feed or exercise him!
We love the outdoors, generally seeking locations to travel to that involve hiking, mountain biking and paddling, with new culture or city/trails to explore. Our shift work leaves us flexible to travel throughout the year and during the week, though does require some planning to get holiday time! We are also hoping to do our first long-term exchange this year and are open to ideas :)

The view of the surrounding mountains and rivers is one of our favourite aspects of where we live. Our street is a mature one, with a mixture of young families and retired couples. We are a 5 minute walk away from one of the city parks, where you can bike, hike, run or take your dog for off-leash walks. Enjoy views of the city, the cliffs or hike to Bridal Veil Falls from our home.
Our home has 4 bedrooms, two of which have queen beds. The third could have the double air mattress set up (and is currently being converted into a kids room, while the fourth is used as an office. There are 2.5 baths, with a partial ensuite bath of the master bedroom.
We are located 40 minutes from Sun Peaks, where in the winter you can ski or snowboard 4,270 acres of terrain. Sun Peaks is the second largest ski resort in Canada, ranked in the Top Ten family ski resorts in North America by Conde Nast and one of the top ski resorts in Canada by numerous magazines Sun Peaks and nearby Stake Lake have great nordic skiing with nearly 100 km of trails between them. Once done playing outside, warm up by the wood fireplace in our living room.
We have a backyard pool and garden which can be enjoyed in the summer, along with over 100 lakes in the surrounding area to fish in, or take our canoe out for a paddle. There are 13 golf courses in the area, and we have countless trails to explore, with one city park featuring over 40 km's of trails.
If you're looking for some indoor activity when not enjoying our over 2,000 hours of sunshine per year, you can challenge fellow travelers to ping pong. The table is located in the lower level of our home or hop on our stationary bike for some indoor activity.

We live in a mature, quiet neighborhood with a mix of families and couples as our neighbors. Within a 5 minute drive of our home are grocery, department and home stores, with clinics, the hospital, library, local museums, downtown shops and restaurants, beaches, dog parks and trails a short 5-10 minutes drive. Unlike larger cities, our city of ~85,000 is free of frustrating traffic!
There are a variety of cafe's and restaurants in Kamloops, from organic and local dishes available at The Art We Are, Terra Restaurant and local breakfast favorite, Hello Toast. For fine dining check out our local Brownstone Restaurant. Restaurant chain favorites include nearby Earl's and Brown's Social House or our favourite Indian/Nepali restaurant, Koh-I-Noor Indian restaurant. To purchase local foods, head to the Farmer's Market, open from spring through fall every Wednesday and Saturday, for a variety of fruits, vegetables, even honey, plants, local wine and crafts! We will leave information for you about our favorite stores and restaurants for your arrival.
For local beers, try one of our brew pubs such as the Noble Pig, and the new brewery Red Collar! There are four local wineries including Monte Creek where you can taste nearly a dozen wines or buy a glass of wine and enjoy with a board of charcuterie on their patio. To taste even more wine, take a winery tour through the Okanagan to sample more of the renowned BC Interior wines or head up to Sun Peaks in December for the 10-day long Winter Okanagan Wine Festival!
Children will enjoy the BC Wildlife Park, or head to the Sky Trek Adventure Park or Oyama Zipline Adventure Park for zip-lining, suspension bridges and more! For wildlife viewing, try the River Safari in Blue River. The whole family will enjoy time at one of our beaches, with an additional playground at Riverside Park or the dog-friendly beach at Pioneer Park. For a fun family outing, head to Starlight Drive-In in Enderby for North America's largest outdoor drive in movie screen!
For time on the water, you can fish at more than 100 lakes surrounding the city, or take our canoe for a paddle. Try stand up paddleboarding at Heffley or Paul Lake, or head to Kalamalka Lake and get the pros at Kalavida Surf Shop to give you some lessons!
When you're done playing on the water, you can head to one of the 13 local golf courses, including award winning Tobiano Golf Course and Talking Rock Golf Course.
There are dozens of trails for hiking or running, with many races including the Dirty Feet series with the running mountain relay and King and Queen of the Hill races at Sun Peaks in September! Additionally, we are located a 2.5 hr drive from Wells Grey Park which boasts great camping facilities, hiking at Trophy Mountain, beautiful waterfalls such as Helmcken Falls, canoeing Clearwater lake and plenty of wildlife to spot.
In the winter our local ski hill Sun Peaks provides over 4,200 acres of terrain to ski or snowboard, along with over 30 km to cross country ski, snowshoe trails and many events including a winter wine festival and fondue on the mountain with a torch-lit ski into the village! In the summer, you can hike trails from the top of the chair life, enjoy downhill and cross-country mountain biking or try the newly installed go karts that race down the mountain! There are frequent free concerts held at the mountain throughout the summer.
In the winter additional cross country skiing is only 20 minutes away at Stake Lake. It provides an additional 60 km of ski trails, with a 5 km dog friendly loop. Check out nearby Whistler (4 hr), Revelstoke (2.5 hr), Silver Star (1.5 hr), Big White (2.5 hr) for skiing or biking and hiking in the summer.
If biking in-town, head to the Kamloops Bike Ranch, Pineview trails or Harper Mountain. We can provide trail maps for our guests! For more single track trails, check in with the Bicycle Cafe or Spoke and Motion.

Mistä tykkäämme ja mistä emme ... Tässä tottumuksimme ja kodimme säännöt.
We will treat your home as we do ours and trust you will respect our space as your own.
Pets are more than welcome to our home, we just ask they do not go for a swim in the pool as their nails could scratch the pool liner and cause the pool to empty long before winter!
Plant care outdoors is only required in the summer. If your family will be taking many day trips and/or only spending a short time at our home, we can arrange for others to take care of watering plants/garden. We want you to enjoy your stay and explore the area!
